Bao Yen strives to become a spiritual tourism center in the Northwest region

Bao Yen is a land with many potentials and strengths to develop spiritual tourism and community tourism. The Executive Committee of the Party Committee of Bao Yen district, term XXII, 2020 - 2025, has identified 4 breakthrough areas, including developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, focusing on developing spiritual tourism and community tourism.

Developing spiritual tourism and community tourism is the focus of tourism development in Bao Yen district.

Bao Yen district currently has 3 national historical and cultural relics and 7 provincial historical and cultural relics. In particular, the Bao Ha temple relic complex located at the gateway of the province and Bao Yen district along the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway has been invested in restoration and embellishment, attracting more than 1 million tourists to visit and worship every year.

Based on the potentials and advantages of the locality, the Party Committee and the people of all ethnic groups in Bao Yen district clearly defined the goal of striving to become a spiritual tourism center of the Northwest region. To achieve this goal, immediately after the 22nd District Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, Bao Yen District Party Committee requested Party committees and Party organizations to thoroughly disseminate the content of Resolution No. 11 dated August 27, 2021 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on tourism development in Lao Cai province to 2030, with a vision to 2050 to cadres and Party members. Along with that, the District Party Standing Committee has developed and issued a plan to implement Resolution No. 11 dated August 27, 2021 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; Build the Project "Developing spiritual tourism and community tourism associated with preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic minorities in Bao Yen district for the period 2020 - 2025".

With the participation of the entire political system, after more than 2 years of implementing the Resolution of the 22nd Bao Yen District Party Congress, specifically implementing the Project "Developing spiritual tourism and community tourism associated with preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic minorities in Bao Yen district in the period of 2020 - 2025", by the end of 2022, the total number of tourists to Bao Yen has reached more than 1.2 million, revenue from services and tourism is about 780 billion VND, of which about 98% of revenue is from visitors and worshipers at spiritual tourist sites. This shows that spiritual tourism has contributed positively to the sustainable development of the locality. People are proactive in participating in activities serving guests at spiritual tourist sites such as arranging offerings, selling souvenirs, consuming local products, transportation services, and catering services.

Spiritual tourism has created jobs and direct income for local people, contributing to the economic restructuring from agriculture to services.

Mr. Tran Trong Thong, Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee affirmed.

The initial results show that the goal of building Bao Yen into a spiritual tourism center of the Northwest region and the whole country is completely correct. The problem is that Bao Yen district needs solutions to maximize this goal. In response to this question, Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee Tran Trong Thong said that first of all, it is necessary to quickly implement programs and projects to develop infrastructure of relic sites and sites associated with socio-economic development goals; proactively propose and report to the province specific priority policies and guidelines for the development of spiritual tourism and community tourism.

Along with that, mobilize resources and well implement the planning and investment work to build infrastructure to serve tourism development. In particular, prioritize the establishment of projects to build and develop community tourism in Nghia Do commune; continue to restore and embellish relics in the area, especially the national historical and cultural relic complex of Bao Ha temple, Phuc Khanh temple, Pho Rang station, Viet Tien revolutionary base, Nghia Do temple; organize surveys, investigations, classification, evaluation, and synthesis of tourism resources to serve as a basis for building tourism products, focusing on building records to recognize relics, scenic spots and preserve intangible cultural heritages in the district associated with tourism development...

Building a series of spiritual belief activities throughout the year; promoting, advertising, developing spiritual tourism associated with continuing to innovate the management of relics and tourism development. Accordingly, the district established the Relic Management and Tourism Development Board, establishing teams to directly manage relics in communes and towns. After more than 1 year of operation, with the specialization in the activities of the Relic Management and Tourism Development Board, revenue from relics in the area increased rapidly, from 41 billion VND (in 2019) to 68 billion VND (in 2022); the number of visitors increased from 800,000 (in 2019) to 1.2 million (in 2022). It is worth mentioning that the infrastructure of relics and tourist attractions has been invested in upgrading in a modern direction; a number of large-scale projects and works have been completed and put into use; Service quality, tourism changes positively, meeting the needs of tourists.

It is worth mentioning that the infrastructure of relics and tourist attractions has been invested in and upgraded in a modern direction; a number of large-scale projects and works have been completed and put into use; the quality of services and tourism has changed positively, meeting the needs of tourists.

“The goal of building Bao Yen into a spiritual tourism center of the Northwest region and the whole country is unchangeable on the basis of linking typical tourism products and strengths of the province and district such as historical tourism, cultural tourism practicing Mother Goddess worship, festivals and building tourism products and services of the district with prestige in the market. That is a solid foundation for Bao Yen to strive for by 2025, the total number of tourists to the area will reach 2.5 million, tourism revenue will reach 3,000 billion VND”, Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee - Tran Trong Thong affirmed.
