In the second match of Group C of the U23 Asian qualifiers, U23 Vietnam won 1-0 against U23 Yemen at home ground Viet Tri (Phu Tho). This was a match in which the West Asian team played well but fell behind to a goal from a set piece after Bui Vi Hao's header in the 85th minute.

Commenting on the home team's defeat, Yemeni press expressed regret. They admitted that the home team faced great difficulties in the race to win tickets to the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. Yemen U23 had no hope of getting a direct ticket when Vietnam U23 was sure to win the top spot in the group. In the race for the play-off ticket (four best second-placed teams), Yemen U23 also faced difficulties when opponents in other groups won by a large margin.

Aden-TM newspaper headlined: "U23 Yemen fell to U23 Vietnam in a fatal blow". The author emphasized: "The regrettable defeat to U23 Vietnam means U23 Yemen no longer has a chance to compete for the top spot in Group C of the U23 Asian qualifiers.

In this match, U23 Yemen dominated the game in the first half, with many missed opportunities in front of U23 Vietnam's goal. The most notable was Qassim Al-Sharafi's shot.

In the second half, U23 Vietnam played better thanks to changes made by coach Troussier. Meanwhile, the rain in Vietnam forced U23 Yemen to only choose to pass the ball long to the two attackers, Ahmed Maher and Hamza Mahrous. However, the defense of U23 Vietnam easily resolved the situation.

It seemed that U23 Yemen had completed the task of holding U23 Vietnam to a draw, but the home team conceded a goal in the 85th minute after Bui Vi Hao's shot from a corner kick. This defeat greatly affected U23 Yemen's hopes of winning a ticket to the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. Coach Miroslav Soukup's team must calculate to compete with the second-placed group.

Bawabatii newspaper admitted that Bui Vi Hao's goal was a real surprise attack by U23 Vietnam, leaving U23 Yemen with no hope of turning the situation around. Now, U23 Yemen can only win against U23 Guam in the last match and wait for the results of the second-placed teams in the other groups.

The Arabian newspaper Merca Today wrote: "The defeat against U23 Vietnam puts U23 Yemen in a difficult situation." The newspaper commented: "The defeat against U23 Vietnam is too painful for U23 Yemen. This defeat makes the task of winning a ticket to the U23 Asian Cup extremely difficult for U23 Yemen.

To be fair, U23 Yemen played quite well when facing U23 Vietnam. However, Bui Vi Hao's moment of genius greatly affected U23 Yemen's dream of participating in the U23 Asian Cup in Qatar. Only the 4 best second-placed teams won tickets to participate in this tournament."

In the final match of Group C of the U23 Asian qualifiers, U23 Yemen will meet U23 Guam at 4:00 p.m. on September 12. At 7:00 p.m. on the same day, U23 Vietnam will face U23 Singapore.
