VietNamNet would like to introduce the 54th UPU letter writing sample with the theme: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone, explaining why and how they should take good care of and protect you.”
In 2025, the UPU international letter writing competition has the theme: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone, explaining why and how they should take good care of you and protect you.”
In English it is: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you”.
Below is a sample letter writing for the 54th UPU:
Hello dear humans!
I am the ocean - the "heart" that sustains all life on Earth. I am likened to this because I play the role of the source of life for all living things on Earth.
Because it covers 71% of the Earth's surface, it has a major impact on the biosphere. The evaporation of water from the oceans determines much of the precipitation that the Earth receives, and the temperature of the ocean water also largely determines the climate and wind patterns on Earth.
Life in the ocean has an evolutionary history that took place about 3 billion years before the movement of animals and plants onto land. I am also home to many species and can be divided into several zones (areas, layers) such as the open sea, the bottom, the sunlit zone, the dimly lit zone... Not only that, throughout history, I have also been considered important routes for trade and transportation.
I have benefited the earth for millions of years, but the pressures caused by humans have increasingly threatened me. These include illegal fishing, overexploitation of marine life, over-resources, marine pollution, destruction of habitats for many marine species, climate change, ocean acidification...
Pollution from plastic is also considered a serious threat because this material changes very slowly and contains many toxic substances, affecting water sources for many years.
Plastic pollution also affects the health of aquatic species and zooplankton. Scientists are concerned that these effects will indirectly harm humans.
Dear friend, there is an undeniable truth that we are under threat. That is why, over the years, people have begun to pay attention to protecting the ocean. In 1992, the Canadian Government proposed World Oceans Day at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Since 2009, the United Nations General Assembly has officially chosen June 8 of each year as World Oceans Day. This commemorative day is held to emphasize the importance of the oceans in our daily lives.
On Ocean Day June 8, environmentalists call on people to join hands to protect the ocean.
Ocean protection activities need the consensus of the whole world. We reduce energy consumption, switch to public transport, use stairs...
We also need to limit products made from plastic and nylon by using reusable water bottles, cloth bags or reusable bags when shopping.
And you, you can also participate in protecting the ocean. That is to join hands in beach care activities, clean up the local beaches, and at the same time not interfere with marine life, rocks and corals.
In addition, humans should also refuse to buy products that are harmful to the ocean, such as coral jewelry, pearls, tortoise shells, shark products...
Don't hesitate any longer, start taking action today!
