(CLO) The North Korean Defense Ministry announced on February 11 that the US deployment of a nuclear submarine to a South Korean port is posing a serious threat to regional security.
According to KCNA news agency, the North Korean military is ready to take any necessary action to respond.

A spokesman for the North Korean Defense Ministry said the appearance of a US nuclear submarine on the Korean peninsula was “a clear manifestation of the US’s unwavering hysteria of confrontation” against Pyongyang.
"We express our deep concern over the dangerous hostile military action of the US, which may push the area around the Korean peninsula into a state of fierce military confrontation and even lead to actual armed conflict," KCNA quoted the North Korean Defense Ministry as saying.
The ministry also warned that the North Korean military would “not hesitate to exercise its legitimate right to punish the provocateurs,” but did not give specific details.
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the USS Alexandria submarine docked in Busan on Monday (February 10) to replenish supplies and rest its crew. Military officials said the event was an opportunity for the two navies to enhance exchanges and strengthen their joint defense posture.
According to the US Navy, the USS Alexandria is a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine, part of the Pacific Fleet and equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles.
North Korea has frequently criticized the presence of US military assets and joint US-South Korean military exercises. On February 9, Pyongyang warned of “undesirable consequences” and condemned a series of recent drills conducted by the two countries.
North Korea has stepped up its rhetoric since US President Donald Trump took office last month for a second term, despite Trump expressing his desire to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for direct talks.
