First announced at WWDC 2023 in June, Diary is a health and fitness-focused app that helps users reflect on the big and small moments in their lives, according to The Verge . However, they will have to wait until iOS 17.2 to experience this feature.
Users can now install iOS 17.2 to experience the new Diary app
Early reviews of Diary in the iOS 17.2 beta show that its biggest strength is its ability to recognize “Moments” based on a user’s phone data, including locations they’ve visited, photos they’ve taken, or exercises they’ve done. Diary can then make writing suggestions based on those Moments.
iOS 17.2 also brings support for spatial video recording, a feature announced with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max in September. It works by simultaneously recording footage from the phone's main and ultra-wide cameras to create a 3D video. Right now, users may have trouble finding much to do with this footage, but it's designed to be played back on the Vision Pro mixed reality glasses that Apple is expected to release early next year.
Other features coming to iOS 17.2 include the ability to set the iPhone 15 Pro's Action button to translate phrases, a new Weather widget, and features for the Messages app like a handy button to quickly jump to the first unread message in a conversation. The update also adds Qi2 charging support to the iPhone 13 and 14, allowing them to charge wirelessly with Qi2 chargers at a faster 15W without the need for a more expensive MagSafe-branded charger.
To download and install iOS 17.2, compatible iPhone users can go to the Settings app > General > Software Update and follow the instructions to install it manually.
