Angola has passed a resolution allowing visa-free entry for stays of 90 days for citizens from more than 90 countries.
There are 35 European countries on the list. The resolution was passed as the southern African country seeks to attract more international visitors to boost its tourism industry. It is home to popular tourist destinations including the sub-Saharan Namib Desert and the Calandula Falls.
According to Euronews, Angolan visas are notoriously difficult to obtain, due to complex administrative procedures and high costs. The former colony was granted independence from Portugal in 1975, but was followed by a 27-year civil war that ended in 2002. Over the past decade, Angola has experienced rapid growth thanks to increased exploitation of its vast natural resources. Oil production and diamond mining have significantly boosted the economy, with the country's GDP reaching $117.88 billion in 2023.
