Specifically, through the report of the local government, the People's Committee of An Giang province assigned the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to check the legality of homestays established on Cam Mountain from 2019 to present.
According to the People's Committee of An Hao Commune, all homestays on Cam Mountain operate spontaneously without any legal procedures. Up to this point, at least 12 homestays have welcomed overnight guests.
Representatives of the above homestay owners expressed their frustration that the sudden suspension of operations by An Giang province has affected their business. The homestay owners expressed their hope that the local authorities and functional agencies will soon guide them to carry out procedures in accordance with legal regulations.
Regarding the illegal homestay operations on Cam Mountain, in October 2022, the Standing Committee of An Giang Provincial People's Committee had a working session with Tinh Bien town and related departments and branches on the management situation, development orientation of Cam Mountain, and building homestay accommodation in Cam Mountain area.
Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee agreed to assign the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism of An Giang province, related departments, branches and the People's Committee of Tinh Bien town to urgently study the draft resolution and thematic issues on the comprehensive management and development of Cam mountain; determine policies, viewpoints and goals for many issues. These include issues on land management, construction, housing, population, traffic, environment, religion and tourism development orientation.
At the same time, the People's Committee of Tinh Bien town was assigned to manage and require homestay owners to maintain the current status, and coordinate with relevant functional agencies to strengthen inspection and strictly handle new constructions that do not comply with regulations.
