On the morning of August 7, the People's Court of Khanh Hoa province sentenced defendant Nguyen Tinh (born in 1998, residing in Ninh Phuoc commune, Ninh Hoa town) to 9 years in prison for murder, and continued to compensate the victim 25 million VND.
According to the indictment, Tinh was addicted to drugs and the couple often argued, so in November 2022, Tinh's wife moved back to live with her mother. At that time, Tinh's wife was pregnant with their second child.

On the afternoon of February 9, 2023, after using drugs, Tinh hid a pair of scissors on his person and went to his mother-in-law's house where he met his wife and Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan (living as husband and wife with Tinh's mother-in-law). Tinh asked his wife to open the gate but she refused. Tinh cursed, climbed over the fence, and asked his wife to go home. Tinh's wife did not agree. Tinh rushed over, used scissors to stab his wife in the back, causing her to fall to the ground. Tinh continued to stab her, but Mr. Tuan tried to stop him. Tinh immediately stabbed Mr. Tuan in the back and continued to stab his wife. Seeing this, Mr. Tuan used an iron rod to hit Tinh and wrestled her to the ground. Tinh was then arrested.
According to the conclusion of the authorities, Tinh's wife's bodily injury was 15%; Mr. Tuan's was 2%. Tinh's wife's injuries were life-threatening. Before, during and after committing the crime, Tinh suffered from mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of many types of drugs. During the crime, Tinh lost the ability to perceive and control his behavior; before, after and currently, Tinh has limited ability to perceive and control his behavior. Tinh has been punished for illegal use of drugs. Mr. Tuan did not request criminal prosecution against Tinh; he beat Tinh while Tinh stabbed Tinh's wife to rescue her; Tinh's wound was only a scratch and healed on its own, Tinh did not request it so it was not considered.
Before the first instance trial, the defendant compensated his wife 25 million VND; Mr. Tuan requested 15 million VND in compensation but was absent from the trial, so it was resolved separately when requested.
