Automatically delete verification codes sent via SMS or email
Every time you log in to an app that requires two-step verification, you’ll receive an SMS or email with a verification code. You probably have hundreds of these codes sitting in your inbox. iOS 17 offers a simpler way to delete them instead of having to manually delete them.
Go to Settings > Passwords > Password options , turn on Automatic cleanup under Verification codes . It will automatically delete verification codes in messages and emails after inserting them with Autofill.
Lock private browsing in Safari
Private browsing in Safari lets you browse the web without saving your history or cookies. However, when you open tabs in private browsing, they don't automatically disappear when you're done browsing; you have to close them. So anyone with your iPhone can see what you're browsing.
On iOS 17, you can prevent this by going to Settings > Safari > Require Face ID to unlock Private Browsing . From now on, every time you open Safari, you'll need to use Face ID or your password to browse privately.
View offline maps Apple Maps
Previously, you had to be connected to the internet to use Apple Maps. With iOS 17, you can download offline maps so you can get directions even when you don't have an internet connection.
In the map, tap the avatar in the top right corner to go to the offline map. You can see suggestions to download the same size map with frequently traveled routes or download a new map.
Crop photos using the zoom feature in Photos
On iOS 17, when you zoom in on a photo to view it, the Crop button will appear right at the top right. It automatically takes you into editing mode and helps you crop your photo quickly. However, you have to act quickly because the Crop button only appears a few seconds after zooming in on the photo.
Laundry Symbol Lookup
Every shirt or pair of pants comes with a tag that contains a variety of laundry symbols. Not all of them are obvious. With iOS 17, you can use the built-in lookup feature in the Photos app to help. When listening to music, iOS 17 offers Interlace to make transitions between songs smoother. In Settings > Music , turn on Interlace . You can choose from 1 second to 12 seconds. For example, if you choose 5 seconds, the next song in the playlist/album will start playing in the background 5 seconds before the current song ends.
Interact with certain widgets on the home screen
Apple has brought interactive widgets to the iPhone, allowing you to control apps right from the home screen, just like you can in Control Center. Currently, the number of widgets is limited. If you want to add a widget to your home screen, just press and hold on a blank space on the screen to enter editing mode, then press the + sign at the top to cycle through the list.
Some of the interactive widgets available are Podcasts, Home, Notes, and Music. For example, in Music you can play or pause music, and in Home you can turn on or off devices like smart lights and thermostats.
