Difference in choice

At the conference, Mr. Huynh Van Chuong - Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) said that of the 1,071,395 candidates registered for the 2024 high school graduation exam, about 95% of candidates registered online. The number of high school candidates is about 96%, and independent candidates is 4%. Of the candidates taking the exam this year, 37% of candidates registered for the Natural Science (KHTN) exam and 63% of candidates chose the Social Science (KHXH) exam. Specifically, compared to 2023, the number of candidates choosing the KHXH exam increased by 7.7% and is the highest in the past 6 years. From 2018 to now, the number of candidates registering for this exam is about 48-56%.

Mr. Chuong noted some new points in this year's high school graduation exam such as: Regulations on certificates to be exempted from the Foreign Language exam and be counted as 10 points in the recognition of high school graduation. This list of foreign language certificates includes some new certificates. Candidates should pay special attention to foreign language certificates that must be valid until June 26, 2024.

Focus on inspection and examination

According to regulations, all stages of the high school graduation exam must be inspected and tested, without overlap but without any loopholes.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Cuong - Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Education and Training presented the plan for inspection and examination of the 2024 high school graduation exam. In particular, he emphasized 3 requirements: Comply with the provisions of the law, properly implement the examination regulations and documents related to the organization of the exam, the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training, in accordance with the assigned positions, responsibilities, and tasks, ensuring seriousness, strictness, objectivity, and fairness; Must clearly define the responsibilities and authorities of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Provincial People's Committees, and the Department of Education and Training in the inspection and examination of the stages of the exam; Inspection and examination activities are independent of the subjects of inspection and examination; Do not replace the tasks or hinder the normal operations of the agencies, organizations, and individuals that are the subjects of inspection and examination.

Mr. Cuong said that for the 2024 high school graduation exam, the Ministry of Education and Training has established 10 direct inspection teams for the direction and preparation of the exam at 20 Departments of Education and Training in the 3 regions of the North, Central and South. The Ministry of Education and Training has established 63 inspection teams at 63 Departments of Education and Training to inspect the direction and organization of the exam. Along with that, according to Mr. Cuong, the inspection and examination activities of the exam follow the motto "4 rights, 3 no's". Specifically: Correct regulations and exam instructions; Correct and complete procedures, no steps must be skipped; Correct positions, assigned responsibilities and tasks; Correct timing, timely handling of unusual situations. And 3 no's include: No negligence, subjectivity; No arbitrarily handling unusual situations; No excessive stress or pressure.

In the Directive on organizing the 2024 high school graduation exam, the Prime Minister requested to soon have a plan for students who failed the 2024 high school graduation exam. In order to organize the exam and university and vocational education entrance exam well in 2024, ministries, ministerial-level agencies, government agencies, People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities are required to lead and direct closely and comprehensively; coordinate smoothly, closely, effectively and smoothly; prepare carefully and thoroughly the conditions; properly implement the regulations and rules on organizing the exam; information and communication must be proactive, timely and complete; absolutely do not be negligent or subjective, flexibly and effectively handle arising issues, creating the most favorable conditions for candidates to participate in the exam.

The 2024 high school graduation exam will take place on June 26-28. Candidates will complete the exam registration procedures on June 26 and take the Literature and Math exams on June 27. On the last day, candidates will take the Foreign Language exam and one of two combined exams in Natural Sciences or Social Sciences. In 2023, about 1 million candidates will take the high school graduation exam, with 98.88% passing, the highest since 2015. Of these, more than 546,000 will apply for university admission. According to the Ministry of Education and Training's schedule, the 2024 graduation exam scores will be announced on July 17.
