Experts have just discovered an unprecedented large-scale personal information leak of up to 26 billion online accounts, including users in Vietnam.

Ukrainian cybersecurity expert Bob Diachenko and the Cybernews security research team discovered the largest user data leak in history, involving up to 26 billion accounts of many users around the world, including Vietnam.

Specifically, a database with a capacity of up to 12TB, containing information of 26 billion accounts of online services and social networking platforms such as Twitter, Tencent, Weibo, LinkedIn, Zing... has just been shared on the internet.

According to Cybernews, the database mainly includes user information that has been leaked from previous cyber attacks, but it is also likely to contain newly stolen data. Hackers can use this personal information to conduct large-scale phishing campaigns or gain unauthorized access to users' social media accounts.

Cybernews security experts also warned that this leaked data is extremely dangerous, as it can be exploited by hackers to carry out sophisticated fraud, targeted cyber attacks or steal sensitive information from social network accounts.

In particular, many users often have the habit of using the same account and password to log in to many different online services, so hackers can rely on leaked information to find ways to break into other online accounts.

Of the 26 billion online accounts that were leaked, two Chinese social media platforms, Weibo and Tencent, were the most affected, with 1.5 billion and 504 million accounts exposed, respectively. MySpace and Twitter were next, with 360 million and 281 million accounts exposed, respectively.

Notably, the list of online platforms with leaked user account information includes Vietnam's Zing platform, with 164 million user accounts having their information leaked.

Experts also said that the leaked data also contained information of many government members in different countries such as the US, Germany, Brazil, the Philippines and Türkiye...

Security experts still don't know who is behind the database, but it's considered the largest data breach ever. For comparison, the previous record breach occurred in 2021, when only 3.2 billion online accounts were exposed, which is only 12% of this data breach.

Users need to immediately check if their online accounts have been leaked by accessing the website https://cybernews.com/personal-data-leak-check/, entering their email address or phone number, then clicking the "Check Now" button to check.

This is a website that specializes in updating databases of large-scale cyber attacks around the world. Thanks to this website, users can know whether their email address or phone number has appeared in the database of cyber attacks that hackers have announced or not.

If you discover that your personal information has been leaked, you should immediately change your online account passwords and enable two-factor authentication (if available). You should also update your passwords every six months and avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.
