Vietnamese Ambassador to Israel Ly Duc Trung updated the latest information on the situation of Vietnamese expatriates in the country in an interview with Tuoi Tre Online on the evening of October 11 (Vietnam time).

5 international students in the hot spot Sderot have good psychology

In a previous exchange with a Vietnamese expatriate, Tuoi Tre Online learned that there are Vietnamese people in hot spots of conflict in Israel.

When asked about this information, Ambassador Ly Duc Trung said there were about 20 Vietnamese people in hot spots, especially 5 international students in the city of Sderot in Israel - only 10km from the border with the Gaza Strip.

Because of the danger in this area, they are receiving the highest priority, are receiving excellent care from receiving units and are receiving a lot of support from local security forces.

“Basically, they are still safe, promoting the qualities of young people as well as the intelligence of Vietnamese people when responding to emergency situations. They are also highly appreciated by teachers at agricultural centers for their good response skills,” said Mr. Trung.

After the Israeli army regained control of the attacked areas, these students were able to maintain contact with the embassy, relatives in the Vietnamese community and student groups. It is noted that their mood is currently comfortable.

“The receiving facilities have committed to transferring them to safer places when the situation allows,” Ambassador Ly Quoc Trung added.

Vietnamese in Israel "help each other" in times of trouble

On October 10 (local time), in large areas of Israel, especially the central region and Tel Aviv, people had to run for shelter several times when air raid sirens sounded. The attacks subsided at night, but a new air raid alarm sounded at noon on October 11.

The frequency of airstrikes in recent days has mainly occurred around the Gaza Strip. According to Ambassador Ly Duc Trung, Hamas forces may be hindering Israel's efforts to check the situation in the area before rescuing the hostages.

He also said that citizens of more than 20 countries have been victims of the attacks in recent days. Fortunately, the Vietnamese people are still safe at this time.

Not only that, they also participated in launching movements and volunteered to help victims in Israel. When many families had to leave the area near the Gaza Strip for safer places like the capital Tel Aviv, many Vietnamese people supported them with food and accommodation.

“The Vietnamese people are still showing a very good spirit of solidarity and mutual love. The bravery of the Vietnamese people is also well demonstrated at this time, so our compatriots in the country can rest assured,” Ambassador Ly Quoc Trung emphasized.

More recommendations for Vietnamese citizens

The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has continuously advised and recommended that delegations and groups visiting/working for a short period of time should find a way to return home as soon as possible to avoid future problems. Ambassador Ly Duc Trung said that many airlines have postponed or canceled flights because the airport is also a high-risk location.

For Vietnamese citizens who cannot stay in Israel for a long time due to reasons related to residence, study, or short-term visits, the embassy is ready to support and connect with local authorities to create favorable conditions, helping citizens stay or return home within the prescribed time and in accordance with regulations.

The embassy regularly holds meetings, updates local authorities, and consults with other representative agencies. Based on the assessment of the risk level and the needs of the people, the embassy has appropriate plans for each specific situation to ensure the safety of Vietnamese people.

Vietnamese citizens in need of assistance can contact the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel at 972-50-818-6116 and +972-52-727-4248, +972-50-994-0889 or the Citizen Protection Hotline of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs at +84 981 84 84 84.
