Three consecutive earthquakes occurred at the The earthquake occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.

On the morning of March 31, information from the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences, said that this morning, in Kon Plong district (Kon Tum province) - a "hot spot" where earthquakes often occur in the Central Highlands, 3 consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.6 to 3.1 continued to occur.

The first earthquake occurred at 4:08 a.m. at the coordinates 14.847 degrees North latitude and 108.282 degrees East longitude; the focal depth was about 8.1 km. This was also the earthquake with the highest magnitude that occurred this morning.

The magnitude of the two earthquakes then gradually decreased.

Specifically, the second earthquake with a magnitude of 3 occurred at 4:10 a.m. at a location with coordinates of 14.849 degrees north latitude and 108.262 degrees east longitude. The third earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 occurred at 4:46 a.m. at a location with coordinates of 14.852 degrees north latitude and 108.291 degrees east longitude. Both of these earthquakes had a focal depth of about 8.1 km.

The disaster risk level of all three earthquakes was assessed by the Earth Sciences Institute as level 0 - meaning it is unlikely to cause damage.

However, to proactively monitor the situation and promptly have response plans, the research agency is continuing to monitor the above earthquakes.

According to the Institute of Earth Sciences, Kon Plong is a “hot spot” of earthquake stimulation in the Central Highlands region. Earthquakes have occurred frequently in Kon Plong since 2021. This phenomenon occurs because the water accumulation process of the hydroelectric reservoir affects the active fault system below.

Some factors related to earthquake stimulation such as reservoir water level, reservoir filling rate, total water volume will affect earthquakes. However, according to the Institute of Earth Sciences, these effects can occur after several months, several years when it seeps deep below.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center also forecasts that earthquakes in the Kon Plong area will continue. Therefore, the earthquake research agency recommends that local authorities regularly update information to come up with earthquake-resistant design plans for all types of structures.

According to the regulations on "earthquake and tsunami prevention and control regulations," when receiving news of an earthquake or tsunami warning, people's committees at all levels must notify the people in the area; organize evacuation instructions and mobilize local means to help people evacuate to safety while taking measures to ensure security and order in the area.

Upon receiving news of an earthquake or tsunami warning, all citizens in the affected area must proactively evacuate from the dangerous area to ensure safety.
