Building new schools for Son La students

Son La Hope Fund and FPT Schools started construction of a new school in Song Ma district, bringing the total number of projects sponsored for students here to 7.

Na Tau school, part of Dua Mon Primary School, Song Ma District, started construction on May 17, including 5 classrooms, a kitchen and a toilet. The old prefabricated classroom area was sponsored for repair to convert into a public house for teachers and a boarding house for students.

This project has a total investment of more than 2.1 billion VND, of which the Hope Fund and FPT Schools System sponsored nearly 1.7 billion VND. The remaining amount is matched by the locality.

This school is located in Dua Mon commune, a particularly disadvantaged commune in Song Ma district, 45 km from the district center. The terrain here is mainly mountainous, and is home to 21 villages of Thai, Mong, Kho Mu ethnic groups, according to Mr. Deo Van Thuan, Chairman of Dua Mon commune People's Committee.

The school currently has 149 students, who are Mong and Kho Mu ethnic groups. Of these, 82 students are eligible for boarding school, but they rent houses around the school because there are no boarding houses. Mr. Nguyen Cong Vien, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Song Ma district, said that after the project is completed, the school will organize boarding for the students.

"This is a meaningful project, helping teachers and students of Na Tau school reduce difficulties in daily life to improve the quality of teaching and learning," Mr. Vien shared. The items are expected to be completed before the next school year.

Ms. Dang Thi Anh Tuyet, Brand - Communications - Marketing Director of FPT High School System said: "As an educational unit, in addition to supporting the construction of new schools, FPT Schools hopes to continue to accompany teachers and students in Na Tau in their future learning and development process. We also hope to continue to have more activities on training and experience in coordination with Na Tau school and Dua Mon Primary School."

Launched in April 2018, the "Light of School" program implemented by Hope Fund received millions of donations from individuals and businesses, joining hands to bring 25 new projects with 100 classrooms and boarding rooms to thousands of children in remote areas in Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Son La, Dien Bien, Lang Son, Quang Nam, Binh Phuoc... In addition, dozens of new, spacious and clean toilets were also given to students in Van Ho district, Son La and Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien. 35 schools with 375 classrooms affected by floods in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh also got a new look before the school year.
