On September 29, ITA confirmed that Afghan boxer Mohammad Khaibar Nooristani, who is competing at the 19th ASIAD, tested positive for a banned substance.
Mohammad Khaibar Nooristani tested positive for a banned substance.
Accordingly, Mohammad Khaibar Nooristani's sample A tested positive for two banned substances, both of which are anabolic steroids. He is also the first athlete at the 19th ASIAD to be found to be using doping.
Previously, the Anti-Doping Committee Advisor of the Olympic Council of Asia, Mani Jegathesan, affirmed that any athlete using banned substances at the ASIAD will be immediately disqualified.
“Every athlete participating in the Asian Games needs to understand that they can be subject to random checks at any time. That is the best way to ensure that we have a clean tournament,” said Mani Jegathesan.
On September 21, ITA conducted a doping test on Mohammad Khaibar Nooristani.
However, four days later, the Afghan boxer still participated in the 71kg qualifying round and lost to his opponent.
To explain this, ITA said that doping tests would take a lot of time so Nooristani could still participate in the qualifying round.
According to information from host country China, there will be about 12,000 athletes participating in ASIAD 19.
As a result, the International Testing Agency said it was unable to obtain all doping samples.
Instead, the ITA will randomly select athletes, including those with high achievements such as breaking world or Asian records or cases where they "receive confidential information".
