That is the story of Nguyen Thi My Duyen, a new graduate of the 61st class, Thuy Loi University Branch in Ho Chi Minh City.
Must change to rise
Meeting Duyen at the graduation ceremony, this girl from Duyen Hai district (Tra Vinh province) smiled brightly and was filled with happiness when her efforts during her student life had the expected results.
"The journey through my university years was like a train that I had arrived at. There were times when I thought I would never be able to finish my studies. But now I have finally graduated," Duyen shared her feelings.
Duyen is the valedictorian of class 61, Thuy Loi University Branch in Ho Chi Minh City.
The reason this new graduate once thought it would be difficult to complete the university program was because he was constantly surrounded by shortages and difficulties.
"Besides the worries about tuition and living expenses, my life was not as smooth and peaceful as many other friends. Many family incidents happened, which made me feel unstable and think about postponing my studies," Duyen said.
But then Duyen suddenly thought: "Even though I'm not as rich or prosperous as others, I'm still lucky to have relatives and family. Looking up, I may not be as good as anyone else, but looking down, I'm luckier than many others. I told myself that I can't keep living in negative thoughts, instead I need to change and move forward."
And then this girl focused all her attention on studying. To relieve the worry of tuition fees, Duyen tried hard to study to get many scholarships. To have money to cover living expenses, Duyen took advantage of her free time to work part-time after school... "Just like that, the difficulties gradually eased. The pressure of money was no longer a burden. Through that, I also helped my parents in the countryside when they didn't have to run around to pay for my tuition", Duyen recalled.
Thanks to her own efforts, Duyen has achieved many achievements in her studies. It can be said that she became an excellent student, continuously receiving scholarships to encourage learning, including the "Le Van Kiem and family" scholarship in 2021. Duyen won third prize nationwide in the "Econometrics and Applications Olympiad" in 2022... In addition, this girl from Tra Vinh also received many certificates of merit for her outstanding achievements in the Youth Union. Notably, at the graduation ceremony for the 61st course, Duyen became the valedictorian with an excellent GPA of 3.67. In particular, in the final semester, Duyen had an absolute GPA of 4.0.

Turn difficulties into motivation
Sharing her experience in receiving scholarships and achieving high academic achievements, Duyen said: "It takes a lot of effort. In the classroom, I always listen attentively to what the lecturers teach. After school hours, I often take advantage of the time to review lessons, research more advanced knowledge, and learn a lot of materials in books, on the internet..."
According to Duyen: "I also have more motivation to study well because I try to change my life. I often think that in order to sit in the lecture hall and acquire knowledge, my parents in the countryside have to work hard. Therefore, I have to study with determination and effort."
In addition, this new graduate shared that each student needs to clearly understand their strengths, what skills they lack, etc. and find ways to promote their strengths, supplement the missing issues to improve. In addition, they should set clear goals and try to achieve the plans they have set.
"Student life often encounters difficulties. But don't feel miserable and give up. Instead, see the difficulties as motivation to try harder. Don't be afraid to set dreams and ambitions. Only then will you have meaningful days in the classroom," Duyen added.
