(Dan Tri) - Thanh Hoa province authorities are urgently dealing with the incident of a bank break and serious landslide on the Le River section through Quang Yen commune (Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province).
At around 1:00 p.m. on February 4, people living in Doai Le village, Quang Yen commune (Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province) discovered that the bank of the Le river flowing through the area was broken and seriously eroded.
At that time, many people suddenly heard the sound of water pouring down the river. When they approached the scene, they discovered that the Le riverbank had broken, dozens of cubic meters of land along the riverbank had been swept away by the current.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Tu (Doai Dong village) said he was working in the garden when he heard the sound of rushing water. "Just a moment later, the water washed away the soil, causing the riverbank to break. I shouted for the neighbors to run out of the house to ensure safety," the man recounted.
After the incident, representatives of the Quang Xuong District Irrigation Branch and local authorities organized ropes and posted warning signs to ensure people's safety. Authorities also discussed a plan to fix the problem.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Deputy Director of the Quang Xuong District Irrigation Branch, said that the incident occurred at the connection between the Hoang River and the Ly River, which is responsible for regulating water to fight drought and serve irrigation for agricultural production.
"The Ly River is flowing backwards, causing landslides. The Quang Xuong District Irrigation Branch is draining the Ly River to limit the amount of water flowing into the Le River," said Mr. Dung.
