According to a VNA reporter reporting from the Netherlands, at the meeting, Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam highly appreciated that 2023 is a very special year for the OPCW, with many important events, including the organization of the 5-year Review Conference and the inauguration of the Chemtech Technical Center right before the Review Conference. According to Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam, it is impossible not to mention that member countries have completed the destruction of declared chemical weapons, marking an important historical turning point for the organization when shifting from the mission of destruction to the mission of preventing and preventing the production, storage and use of chemical weapons. Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam affirmed that he will make every effort to continue to maintain and further promote the existing good relationship between the OPCW and Vietnam. The Ambassador also hopes that the OPCW will continue to support and assist Vietnam in considering and recruiting Vietnamese officials to work at the OPCW and the Center for Chemistry and Technology (Chemtech); support for Vietnam's capacity building through OPCW training activities; support for new or used analytical equipment when upgrading the Chemtech Center for Chemistry and Technology to improve the capacity of Vietnam's laboratories.For his part, Director General Fernando Arias welcomed Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam's appointment as Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the OPCW; expressed his belief that the Ambassador would fulfill his assigned tasks well, making positive contributions to the relations between the two countries in general and the OPCW in particular. The Director General acknowledged Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam's proposals and responded positively to the possibility of the OPCW providing chemical analysis equipment to laboratories in Vietnam.
The OPCW is an intergovernmental organization with 193 members, established to implement the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), with the goal of striving for the complete and permanent elimination of chemical weapons for global security, stability and development. Vietnam is one of the first member states of the Convention and has always participated fully and actively in the OPCW.
