The 1-1 draw with Myanmar in the opening match forced Vietnam to beat China in this afternoon's match at Huamark Stadium. However, China's progress made it difficult for coach Diego Giustozzi and his team to approach the goal.

The turning point only came when China continuously illegally blocked Vietnamese players, leading to six total fouls and a 10m penalty in the 11th minute. In a face-to-face situation with goalkeeper Song Zechao, Nhan Gia Hung put his right foot on the ball and sent it into the bottom right corner to open the score.

After that, every time China committed a foul, they had to pay a similar 10-meter penalty. Coach Li Runsong handled the situation by letting his team play power-play, to limit Vietnam's control to avoid fouls, and at the same time take advantage of the non-stop time in the first half.

In the second half, the Chinese goal was shaken by Pham Duc Hoa's direct shot that hit the left post. After that, Nguyen Thinh Phat had at least five good chances to score but could not beat Song Zechao. In the 29th minute, Minh Quang shot with his left foot but Van Tien was a beat too slow to tap the ball into the post. Even goalkeeper Van Y had some chances to rise above half the field and shoot boldly.

From the 26th minute, China continued to play power-play but their ability to connect and coordinate quickly was limited, so they did not create clear opportunities. The good opportunities mainly came from mistakes by Vietnamese players. On the contrary, Vietnam also failed to take advantage of them to counter-attack or shoot into an empty goal.

At the 31st second, Vietnam was shocked when Shen Siming's left-footed shot hit the crossbar. This was also the last dangerous situation before the match ended.

A 1-0 win over China puts Vietnam at the top of Group A with four points, one point ahead of Thailand but having played one more match. Thailand will face Myanmar at 6pm today.

The 2024 AFC Futsal Championship will take place in Thailand from April 17 to 28 with 16 of the continent's top teams. The four teams with the best results will qualify for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan.

If Uzbekistan reaches the semi-finals, the four losing quarter-finalists will compete in a play-off to determine the fifth Asian spot. Vietnam participated in the 2016 and 2020 World Cups.

In the final round on April 21, if Vietnam wins at least one point against Thailand, it will certainly enter the quarterfinals.
