For nearly 20 years since its establishment, VAS has maintained its vision of becoming "a school of generations of excellent global citizens" and its mission of creating sustainable values, towards a happy community and a better society.
In addition to volunteer programs and environmental protection projects, the unit brings inspirational stories about how to foster love and community responsibility for future generations.
Here, teaching and learning are not limited to the classroom. The school has many extracurricular activities, field trips and practical projects. At the same time, VAS students are in charge of many meaningful community and environmental projects. Thanks to this, they have the opportunity to turn their creative ideas into meaningful contributions to the community. At the same time, they learn how to give and receive love, feel valuable life lessons to grow up more firmly.
"That is how VAS sows and develops core values for students. From there, they will become brave global citizens and also a 'green generation' with love and a sense of responsibility towards the community," shared a VAS representative.

One of the school's outstanding community programs is "VAS Community" (VASers for the community). Through this, students propose ideas for their group's community project, present the implementation plan, significance and feasibility. The jury selects three entries to fund and implement during the school year with a total amount of VND 100 million. At the same time, VAS awards consolation prizes to five projects with a support amount of VND 3 million per group. After that, students use the fund as initial capital to organize fundraising activities, from there, to achieve the goal.
According to VAS representatives, the projects are well-organized, creative and sustainable. Some projects that won the "VAS Community" award have been maintained for many years with increasing funds. The old generation will continue to maintain and develop after graduation and new students.
Among them, the project "Lighting up knowledge - ASER" of teachers and students of VAS Hoang Van Thu (HCMC) is about to enter its 6th season. This is a project to give solar-powered desk lamps assembled by VAS students to disadvantaged students in areas without electricity. Last October, the project team visited and gave gifts to 50 primary school students in ZaHung, Quang Nam, an area of the Co-tu ethnic group.
After the trip, the project representative shared that the moment of seeing the children's smiles was the most valuable reward the members received after months of hard preparation.
"My friends and I believe that love is the best bond that connects people together. Love always warms each other and helps people feel happier," said Linh Dan, a project member.

In addition, VAS students raise funds through many other activities such as growing clean vegetables, making cakes to sell to parents at school, wrapping and selling banh chung during Tet, creating paintings of Vietnam maps from rice, bamboo, coconut shells, sand... to auction online.
"After the online auction of the Vietnam map painting for 30 million VND, two parents donated an additional 30 million VND to the project team because they saw that the painting was very elaborate, demonstrating the perseverance and kindness of the children," said Ms. Do Thi Tuoi, the instructor, about the story surrounding the "Gardener" project.
The children also organized music nights, exchanged and collected books, toys, school supplies, and uniforms for charity; donated meals, participated in serving at charity restaurants; cleaned public areas; planted trees in recycled plastic pots to donate; made clips and leaflets about environmental protection to spread the green message...
In addition, VAS has maintained organizing many inspirational activities on sustainable development over the past decades such as the VAS Talks sharing series; the 3Rs Projects environmental project; the tree planting fundraising running competition - VAS Green Day Run...
