Facing a tough opponent like U22 Indonesia, of course coach Philippe Troussier used his best players. The two players who were tested and played well in the draw with U22 Thailand were Ngoc Thang and Minh Trong, who were on the field from the start. In which, Ngoc Thang replaced Tien Long next to Quang Thinh and Tuan Tai in the 3-center-back formation. Minh Trong and Van Cuong were the 2 wingers, playing in the midfield were Duc Phu and Thai Son, the 3 highest players were Van Do, Van Tung and Thanh Nhan.

U22 Vietnam (white shirt) did not start the match well.

U22 Vietnam had a bad start like the previous match against U22 Thailand when they conceded an early goal in the 9th minute. From a strong throw-in on the right wing, a moment of inattention from U22 Vietnam allowed defender Komang to head the ball in to open the score.

But just like the match with U22 Thailand, the U22 Vietnam players "reacted" very well after conceding a goal. Coach Philippe Troussier's players were not discouraged, on the contrary, they pressed forward to attack, controlled the ball more, and created a few notable situations. The attacking efforts and constant pressure of Coach Philippe Troussier's players were also rewarded with the equalizer 1-1 in the 35th minute. This move came from the left wing, from Duc Phu's cross, Van Tung headed the ball back into the opponent's net. This was the fifth goal of the Hanoi Club striker at this year's SEA Games. 1-1 was also the score of the first half.

Van Tung equalized 1-1 for U22 Vietnam

U22 Vietnam continued to have a bad start at the beginning of each half. In the 53rd minute, from a throw-in into the penalty area, goalkeeper Van Chuan punched the ball out but the Indonesian player shot far away, the ball bounced around, leaving him unable to react. After this goal, U22 Vietnam "reacted" strongly, they continuously increased the pressure. In the 60th minute, U22 Vietnam had an extra player when Pratama Arha received a second yellow card and left the field. With the advantage of having more players, U22 Vietnam attacked continuously and the result came with the second goal in the 78th minute. From the right wing, Ngoc Thang made a difficult cross and Xuan Tien's pressure caused number 2 Bagas Kaffi to fumble the ball into his own net.

The players in white played hard in the second half.

It seemed that the high spirits would help U22 Vietnam score another goal or at least bring the match into extra time, but in the 5th minute of extra time of the second half, from a simple counterattack by U22 Indonesia, midfielder Taufany fired a low, dangerous cross-angle shot, defeating goalkeeper Van Chuan, sealing a 3-2 victory for U22 Indonesia.

This defeat is really regrettable for U22 Vietnam because we played better in the second half thanks to having more players. It can also be considered a useful lesson for the young players. This defeat means U22 Vietnam cannot defend the championship. Coach Philippe Troussier and his team will meet the losing team in the second semi-final match between U22 Thailand and U22 Myanmar in the bronze medal match on May 16.
