After a 90-minute draw with U16 Porto, U16 PVF won on penalties and won 3rd place overall at the 2023 Shanghai Future Star Cup international U16 friendly tournament in China.

U16 PVF had an impressive journey in China, the team lost to U16 Ulsan Hyundai (Korea) with a score of 1-2 in the opening match.
Coach Nguyen Duy Dong and his team consecutively defeated U16 Man City (England) with a score of 2-1, and beat U16 Aspire Academy (Qatar) 4-0 to win the right to play in the semi-finals.
However, the Vietnamese representative failed to qualify for the final match when they lost 1-4 to U16 Cerezo Osaka (Japan) in the semi-finals.
U16 PVF played the third place match with U16 Porto (Portugal) on the afternoon of September 3.
U16 PVF faced U16 Porto in a match where coach Nguyen Duy Dong and his team were not rated as highly as their opponents.
However, the representative from Vietnam had an excellent match to draw 1-1 with the team from Portugal.
The scorer for U16 PVF was Manh Dung. After a draw after 90 minutes, both teams had to decide the winner on penalty kicks.
In the penalty shootout, Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Le Minh Nhat, Nguyen Sy Manh Dung and Tran Gia Huy successfully executed the first four shots. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Pham Huy Hoang saved two shots in the first and third shots, helping PVF win.
Defeating the opposing team 4-1 on penalties, U16 PVF won the final match with a total score of 5-2 and won 3rd place in the Shanghai Future Star Cup 2023 held in China.
Shanghai Future Star Cup 2023 is a tournament for players born in 2007 and later, taking place in China from August 28 to September 3, with 8 participating teams divided into two groups.
Group A includes Man City, Ulsan Huyndai, PVF and Aspire (Qatar); Group B includes Shanghai, Cerezo Osaka, Tottenham and Porto.
