And he immediately made good on his promise, giving a $1 million check to someone who attended his event in Pennsylvania on October 19, aimed at rallying supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. A support staff member at the event identified the winner as John Dreher. "By the way, John doesn't know anything. Anyway, you're welcome," the Tesla boss said as he handed Dreher the check. This is the latest example of billionaire Musk using his vast fortune to influence the extremely fierce US presidential race between Mr. Trump and Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. Billionaire Musk has established America PAC, a political action committee to support Mr. Trump's presidential campaign. The group helps mobilize and register voters in battleground states, but there are signs that the organization is having trouble achieving its goals. The Harrisburg event is the third in Pennsylvania where Musk is urging supporters to vote early and encourage others to vote. Musk said in a speech on October 19 that if Harris wins, it will be the “last election,” implying that the United States will no longer exist. He also said that the two assassination attempts on Trump prove that Trump is doing drastic things and changing the status quo in ways that Harris would not. The petition Musk asked people to sign reads: “The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. By signing below, I pledge my support for the First and Second Amendments.” Attendees of Saturday’s event signed the petition, allowing America PAC to collect contact information for many potential voters to get them to the polls to vote for Trump. The world’s richest man has so far donated at least $75 million to America PAC, making the group a key part of Trump’s bid to return to the White House. Trump has said that if elected, he will appoint Musk to head a commission to improve government efficiency.
