Ba Don Town: Promoting the role of medical stations

In the table of data on medical examination and treatment (KCB) of Quang Phong Ward Health Station, many people were surprised by the number of births at the station in 2024, with 135 cases. However, according to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho, Head of Quang Phong Ward Health Station, this number is still low compared to previous years. In recent years, on average, there have been over 200 births at the station each year, and more than half of them are mothers from neighboring communes and wards.

The reason for this impressive number, according to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho: “First of all, we thoroughly understand that medical staff must have a dedicated service attitude and perform examinations and consultations for patients with heart. Based on expertise and accurate diagnosis, favorable cases that meet medical examination and treatment conditions will be allowed to give birth at the station; for difficult cases, we will guide them to transfer to a higher level. Thanks to that, for many years, there have been no unfortunate obstetric incidents at the station, and people have more and more confidence.”

Commune and ward health stations are invested in spacious facilities, with a scale that meets the requirements of medical examination and treatment for local people.

That method has been applied by Quang Phong Ward Health Station to perform tasks in public health care and has achieved positive results. The station has proactively implemented many modern techniques, such as: Ultrasound, testing...; equipped with over 90% of necessary medical equipment; implemented well the medical examination and treatment work combining traditional medicine and modern medicine; performed well the reproductive health care work; the vaccination rate for children reached over 99% of the target. At the same time, screening for early detection of hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, bronchial asthma,... contributed to doing well the initial health care work for the people.

With these efforts, in 2024, Quang Phong Ward Health Station was awarded the title of excellent labor collective by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Station Chief Nguyen Dinh Tho and the station collective received a certificate of merit from the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in work. Even more special is the recognition from patients, as Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa shared: "Every time we come here for medical examination, the doctors and nurses always ask us questions, examine us carefully, and give us very enthusiastic and thoughtful instructions. For many years now, I have trusted and chosen the station as a place to regularly go for medical examination and treatment."

In addition to improving expertise, professionalism, and service attitude, facilities and equipment are extremely important factors for medical stations to upgrade and promote their role in medical examination and treatment. Many units have been invested in construction according to standards, meeting the requirements for performing medical examination and treatment tasks. The application of the 5S method - "Screening, Arranging, Cleaning, Caring, Ready" in medical examination and treatment, to improve service quality and create a "green-clean-beautiful" working environment is always of interest to and well implemented by medical stations. Ba Don Town is one of the leading localities in implementing this work with many model points, such as: Quang Thuy, Quang Hoa, Quang Phuc, Quang Phong, ...

Director of Ba Don Town Health Center Nguyen Phuc Ky said that commune and ward health stations have promoted their role in primary health care for local people. Preventive health care work and implementation of health programs have been proactively carried out and achieved good results. Regarding medical examination and treatment, in 2024, there were 43,552 visits to health stations in the area, reaching 101.3%; 1,250 inpatients, reaching 104.2%; 703 outpatients, reaching 100.4%; 665 ultrasounds, reaching 102%.

Currently, Ba Don Town has 16 commune and ward health stations and in the first 3 months of 2025, the total number of medical examination and treatment at health stations in the area was 12,573, reaching 29.2% of the yearly plan.

These results are primarily due to the attention of Party committees, authorities at all levels and sectors in investing in infrastructure and providing essential medical equipment for medical examination and treatment. In addition, the unit always closely follows the professional guidance and direction of the Department of Health and provincial centers. The unit pays special attention to training human resources for the grassroots level: Sending staff to participate in long-term training of medical specialists; training masters and bachelors in various fields as well as short-term training courses.

Deputy Director of the Department of Health Dinh Vien Anh affirmed: Thanks to investment from medium-term public investment sources, grassroots health projects, health stations have been built spaciously, with a scale that meets the requirements of health care for people. All health stations in Ba Don town have doctors and full titles according to regulations; the system of equipment invested by projects meets the needs of medical examination and treatment in the area. In recent years, the number of patients coming for medical examination and treatment has been very high, proving that the quality, spirit and service attitude of commune health stations have received satisfaction from the people. At the end of 2024, the health sector organized a tour to learn about the model of Ba Don town Health Center and commune and ward health stations in the area for health center units in the whole province.

“In the coming time, we will focus on consolidating and perfecting the grassroots health network; improving the professional capacity and medical ethics of the medical staff; strengthening disease prevention and control and preventive medicine; promoting communication and education on community health; strengthening state management of health; promoting digital transformation, continuing to implement Project 06, creating electronic health records for all people in the area towards digital health... All of this is aimed at continuing to improve the quality of grassroots health services, contributing to the goal of ensuring social security in the area,” said Mr. Nguyen Phuc Ky.
