Since "Mr. Trump"...

Russia's attacks are moderate, Ukraine "nods" to negotiations and thinks about a day of dialogue with President Putin, putting aside hatred to move towards peace... those are things that are hard to think about if 'Mr. Trump does not come'.

The situation is tense.

Russian forces have continued to intensify attacks across the front but have had little success. Moscow is determined to seize as much territory as possible as the Trump administration pushes for negotiations to end the conflict.

Ukrainian soldiers in Pokrovsk said Russian forces had changed tactics in recent weeks, attacking their flanks instead of head-on to form a pincer movement around the city.

With the Russians in control of the heights, Ukraine's supply lines are now within range of Russian Army fire.

Heavy fog in recent days has prevented Ukrainian soldiers from using surveillance drones effectively, allowing Russia to consolidate and seize more territory.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian commanders say they do not have enough reserves to maintain defense lines and new infantry units are unable to carry out operations.

According to data from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces seized 430 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in January and are moving towards the logistics hub of Pokrovsk.

This marks a slowdown from previous months, after record advances of 725 square kilometres in November and 476 square kilometres in December.

For its part, the Ukrainian Army launched an attack on a Russian airbase in Krasnodar Krai on the night of February 5-6 as part of a campaign of attacks on Russian defense industry enterprises and oil refineries.

Western partners continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine. French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced on February 6 that France had delivered an unspecified number of French Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine – the first batch of Mirage jets Ukraine has received.

On the same day, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov also announced that the Netherlands had recently transferred an unspecified number of US-made F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

Possible scenario, who benefits the most?

The Italian Institute for International Relations (IARI) news network reported on February 6 that in recent days, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have expressed their intention to negotiate and want to meet to end the conflict in Ukraine.

The leaders have yet to come up with any plans and both sides know that the time frame to achieve this goal is very long.

However, President Trump, intending to speed up the process, has stated that if his Russian counterpart does not negotiate with Ukraine, he will be forced to impose new sanctions on Moscow.

The Trump administration has yet to release detailed plans for talks with its Russian counterpart.

But based on proposals put forward by U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg and Vice President James David Vance, we can think of a possible scenario: Implement a ceasefire; negotiate with Moscow the territories it currently controls in Ukraine; indefinitely block Ukraine’s NATO membership; ease U.S. sanctions on Russia; create a “heavily fortified” demilitarized zone on the border between Ukraine and Russia to freeze the conflict, with the possibility of Western military forces patrolling to monitor and maintain the ceasefire.

Along with the negotiation solutions, the Trump administration is also aiming for another target: Ukraine's rare earths.

On February 3, Mr. Trump said he wanted to negotiate a “deal” with Ukraine in which Kiev would “guarantee” the supply of rare earths to the US, in exchange for Washington continuing to provide aid to Ukraine.

On February 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky immediately “responded” to Mr. Trump’s proposal, declaring that Ukraine is ready to receive “investment from American businesses” to exploit rare earths, metals of strategic importance to the US in particular and to the world in general.

President Zenlensky's "nod"

Faced with pressure from the US and calculations based on the ground in the conflict with Russia, Ukraine has "softened its tone" with statements opening up many possible solutions.

In an interview with British journalist Pier Morgan, published on February 4, President Zelensky said that Ukraine wanted to end the “hot phase” of the conflict and that its willingness to negotiate with Russia was a concession.

“We will talk to Mr. Putin. Even talking to Mr. Putin is a concession,” the Ukrainian president said.

Asked how he would feel about sitting across from Russian President Putin in a face-to-face meeting, Mr. Zelensky replied that he would put aside his personal feelings on the matter.

“If this is the only option that can bring peace to the Ukrainian people and not cause more deaths, we will definitely choose this option. So what does my attitude towards him mean?”, Mr. Zelensky said.

Mr. Zelensky emphasized that the negotiation process with Russia must include Ukraine, the United States, the European Union and Russia. He also said that Kiev is not willing to recognize any Ukrainian territory controlled by Russia as belonging to Moscow.

"Certainly, the United States, President Donald Trump and the European Union countries believe that diplomacy is not possible without Russia and President Putin. Therefore, I say that I am ready if we understand how this conflict will end," President Zelensky said on February 6.

"We are ready for diplomacy. I have no problem with that. I think the problem is that Mr. Putin is afraid to talk to me about ending the conflict. Anyway, I think Mr. Trump will probably force Mr. Putin to end the conflict," Mr. Zelensky added.

President Zelensky also stressed the importance of a sustainable peace with strong security guarantees. He said he had discussed this issue with the United States.

The statements appear to signal a shift in Mr Zelensky’s stance. He has repeatedly refused to negotiate with the Russian leader and even signed a decree banning any talks with Moscow, especially President Putin.

President Donald Trump is an important factor directly influencing the views and positions of both Russia and Ukraine, lighting up hope for a peaceful solution to the conflict.
