According to RIA Novosti 's analysis of the above data, in 2024, for the first time since 2014, South Korea directly purchased helicopters with an empty weight of over 2 tons from Russia, worth $4.1 million.

Meanwhile, Russia also cut its aircraft parts exports to South Korea compared to the previous year. Specifically, in 2024, South Korea imported aircraft parts worth $5.2 million from Russia, equivalent to 34.5 tons, down 69.2% compared to the previous year, to the lowest level since 2022. Before this period, no similar transactions were recorded.

South Korea imported from Russia items including spare parts for planes, helicopters and drones worth $2.9 million, along with propellers worth $2.04 million. Smaller purchases such as landing gear and related components amounted to just $261,000.

South Korea's total imports of aircraft and related components from Russia in 2024 will reach $9.3 million (39.8 tons). Among the countries supplying this item to Seoul, Russia ranks ninth, while the top five are the United States ($2.4 billion), France ($1.1 billion), Germany ($274.4 million), Canada ($88.5 million) and China ($83.7 million).

The move signals a shift in Russia's export strategy from supplying components to supplying complete aircraft, amid fierce competition from other major suppliers in the Korean market.
