*Japan pledges to resolve territorial dispute with Russia: Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru on February 7 pledged to resolve the long-standing territorial dispute between his country and Russia, which has prevented the two sides from signing a peace treaty, as bilateral relations remain strained due to the conflict in Ukraine.

*Russia resumes flights to Georgia's breakaway region after three decades: Russia's state news agency (RIA) reported on February 7 that Russia resumed passenger flights to Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia for the first time in three decades.

Russia recognized Abkhazia and another breakaway region, South Ossetia, as independent states in 2008 after defeating Georgia in a five-day war. Moscow maintains military bases in both regions and supports the economies of both Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The war has worsened relations between Russia, which backs the Abkhazian separatists, and Georgia. The two sides do not have formal diplomatic relations, but have drawn closer in recent years as Georgia's relations with the West have deteriorated. (TASS)

The Israeli prime minister's office said on February 6 that the gift represented a "turning point in the war" against Hezbollah, as Israel carried out a campaign that inflicted heavy casualties on the group using explosive pagers last September. This strategic operation demonstrated Israel's strength, technological superiority and ingenuity.
