Funeral and burial of 96 martyrs' remains gathered in Laos

On May 19, at the Nghi Loc District Martyrs' Cemetery, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province solemnly held a ceremony to receive and bury the remains of 96 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the three provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane and Xay Xom Bun, Lao People's Democratic Republic. The 96 remains of the martyrs were searched, collected and transported back to the country by the Nghe An Provincial Collection Team during the dry season of 2022-2023.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Head of the Government's Special Work Committee; Colonel Hoang Tuan Hien, Deputy Director of the Policy Department of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, and members of the delegation; representatives of the leaders of Military Region 4. On the side of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, there were comrades: Lieutenant General Vong Son-In Pan Phim, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Special Work Committee of Xay Sam Bun province; Phu Vong-Bun Xu, Deputy Governor, Head of the Special Work Committee of Vientiane province; representatives of the Special Work Committee of Xieng Khouang province; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, and representatives of local authorities; departments, branches, socio-political organizations and a large number of people.

The search and collection of martyrs' remains is a major policy of our Party and State, demonstrating the Vietnamese people's traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and the sacred and profound affection for comrades and teammates who heroically sacrificed for the cause of national liberation, protecting the Fatherland and fulfilling noble international duties.

Recently, with the attention and direction of the Special Working Group of the Governments of Vietnam and Laos, the Ministry of National Defense, the Command of Military Region 4, Nghe An province has closely coordinated with the three provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane and Xay Som Bun, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, to collect nearly 12,500 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the resistance wars in the three provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane and Xay Som Bun, bringing them back to the country and burying them at the Vietnam - Laos Martyrs' Cemetery, the Do Luong District Martyrs' Cemetery and the Nghi Loc District Martyrs' Cemetery.

These are the outstanding sons of the Vietnamese people, who did not spare their blood and bones, heroically fought and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for Socialism, for the noble international duty in the resistance wars against the common enemy in the brotherly country of Laos.

The remains of 96 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the Lao People's Democratic Republic will be searched for and recovered during the dry season of 2022-2023.

In the dry season of 2022 - 2023, although the work of searching and collecting the graves of martyrs who died in Laos encountered many difficulties and hardships, especially in remote and rugged mountainous terrain, facing harsh weather and climate, but with responsibility and infinite gratitude to the heroes and martyrs; the officers and soldiers of the Nghe An Provincial Collection Team searched and collected the remains of 96 martyrs who were Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Delivering the opening speech, Comrade Bui Dinh Long, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, expressed his deep gratitude to the Heroes and Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and for their noble international duties. He emphasized: “Our Party, State, People and Army are very proud of you. The sacrifices of the Heroes and Martyrs have greatly contributed to the victory of the revolutions of the two countries, further enhancing the special friendship and solidarity between the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos.”

At the memorial service, in a solemn atmosphere, leaders of the Government's Special Working Group, the Ministry of National Defense, Military Region 4, Nghe An province and the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane, Xay Som Bun (Laos); representatives of provincial departments, branches and sectors, along with a large number of cadres and people... respectfully offered flowers and incense to commemorate and express their deep gratitude to the martyrs who heroically sacrificed their blood and bones for the cause of national liberation of Laos.
