The Chinese Foreign Ministry as well as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have reacted to Russian President Vladimir Putin signing an updated version of Russia's nuclear doctrine on November 19.

"Under the current circumstances, all parties should remain calm and restrained, and work together through dialogue and consultation to ease tensions and reduce strategic risks," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said when asked about Russian President Putin signing an updated version of Russia's nuclear doctrine and strikes inside Russia.

"China's stance of encouraging all parties to cool down the situation and commit to resolving the Ukraine crisis through political means remains unchanged. China will continue to play a constructive role in this issue," Mr. Lam stressed, according to AFP.

Previously, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on November 19 also commented on President Putin signing an updated version of Russia's nuclear doctrine, emphasizing that Moscow has every right to self-defense, according to TASS News Agency.

"I think that this statement by Russia is, above all, a measure taken in response to the stance against it regarding the use of conventional weapons. I think this issue must be considered by NATO officials," Erdogan said at a press conference after the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"Russia has the right and the ability to defend itself and take defensive measures. And they are obliged to take these measures. Just like us, NATO countries, have to defend ourselves and take steps to do so," Erdogan stressed.

Erdogan reiterated that both Russia and Ukraine are Türkiye's neighbors. "At this stage, we must protect our bilateral relations with them. I hope we will achieve a definitive ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia as soon as possible and ensure the peace that the planet is waiting for," Erdogan said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that the revised nuclear doctrine provides for a response if Ukraine uses Western non-nuclear missiles against Russia, according to TASS.

The updated version of the Russian nuclear doctrine signed by President Putin is called "Foundations of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the sphere of nuclear deterrence," according to Sputnik News Agency.

The updated version states that any attack by a non-nuclear state supported by a nuclear power will be considered a joint attack, and any attack by one member of a military bloc will be considered an attack by the entire alliance.
