Reuters quoted a spokesman for the National People's Congress (NPC) of China as saying today, March 4, that Premier Li Qiang will not hold a press conference on the results of the two sessions when the session closes as has long been a tradition.

Explaining this, Mr. Lou Qinjian said that during and after the two sessions, the ministers will report on the issues discussed.

Since 1993, Chinese premiers have held press conferences after the two sessions. At these press conferences, domestic and international reporters can ask the Chinese premier a series of questions on various fields.

Last year, at a press conference following the closing of the two sessions, Chinese Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed his commitment to the private sector. It was also his first press conference as premier.

This morning, March 4, the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) officially opened its second session. The 14th National People's Congress (the National Assembly) of China will also open its second session on March 5. The session ends on March 11.

During this year's two sessions, China is expected to announce a series of economic and social goals, including a GDP growth target and policies to achieve them such as promoting technological innovation.
