“In the sky, nothing is more precious than the People”!

The People's Force has a great strength, thanks to which the Vietnamese people have overcome countless arduous and fierce struggles to gain and maintain independence. Therefore, for our nation, the viewpoint that "the country takes the people as its foundation" has become the truth. And that truth has been inherited and highly promoted in the Ho Chi Minh era: "Only when the root is strong can the tree last. Building a tower of victory is based on the people's foundation"!

During the long period of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people, there have been many vivid and convincing evidences of the invincible strength of the People. That is the legend of the boy from Phu Dong village who suddenly grew up to fight off the Yin invaders. Although the story is imbued with myths, it still has its historical core. And above all, it is a brilliant symbol of the strength of the People that we can find when we "peel off" the mythical outer layer. Then from the 2nd century BC, our country fell into the disaster of foreign invasion, when it was occupied by the Northern feudalism. However, throughout the thousand years of Chinese domination, our People have always been indomitable, resilient, and persistent in fighting to preserve our race, maintain our culture, and determined to regain national independence. From the 10th to the 15th century, the army and people of Dai Viet continued to take up arms to fight the enemy to defend the country, with countless glorious feats. Those were the three resistance wars against the Mongols (1258, 1285, 1288) under the Tran Dynasty, associated with the name of the outstanding commander Tran Quoc Tuan. That was the Lam Son uprising (1418-1427) led by Le Loi, overthrowing the Ming Dynasty's domination, completing the cause of national liberation and leading Dai Viet to continue writing new pages of history in the era of "Opening the foundation of eternal peace"...

It can be said that the history of the Vietnamese people has gone through many ups and downs, sometimes prosperous, sometimes declining. However, there is one thing that has become inevitable, deeply rooted in the roots of national tradition, that is, when the country is faced with foreign invasion, our people will stand up to fight, determined to regain independence. That is the power of the passionate patriotism that "From ancient times to the present, every time the Fatherland is invaded, that spirit is boiling, it forms an extremely strong, huge wave, it overcomes all dangers and difficulties, it drowns all traitors and invaders". That is also the power of the spirit of great solidarity, crystallized from the deep awareness, noble and sacred feelings of many generations of Vietnamese people, that "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one, rivers can dry up, mountains can wear away but that truth will never change"!

President Ho Chi Minh - the most beautiful and shining symbol of ardent patriotism - once expressed: "I have only one desire, the ultimate desire, which is to make our country completely independent, our people completely free, everyone has food to eat, clothes to wear, everyone can study". Faced with the loss of the country and home, with a most patriotic heart, he was determined to "find a path for the nation to follow" - the path to save the country and save the people under the light of Marxism-Leninism. On that journey, imbued with Marxism-Leninism's viewpoint on the role of the masses in history and with love, respect, and absolute trust in the strength and endless creativity of human beings, Ho Chi Minh believed: "The people are the decisive force for the success or failure of the revolution". From there, he went on to affirm that, whether in the national liberation revolution or in the cause of building socialism, with the people's strength, no matter how difficult or big the task, it can be done: "Ten times easier without the people, we can endure. A hundred times harder, we can complete." And in fact, the victory of the August Revolution in 1945 and the subsequent 30 years of resistance against the French colonialists and the invading American imperialists, was the most eloquent proof of the truth about the invincible strength of the People in which Ho Chi Minh placed all his faith.

It can be affirmed that the “red thread” running through Ho Chi Minh’s Thought is the belief in the power of the People. Because, “In the sky, nothing is more precious than the People. In the world, nothing is stronger than the united force of the People”. Therefore, “in society, nothing is more beautiful and glorious than serving the interests of the People”. This is the essence of the word “good” with the meaning of “good” that he always practiced throughout his life. Arousing the power of the People must go hand in hand with caring for the people. That is the dialectical materialist methodology that President Ho Chi Minh pointed out and he considered caring for the material and spiritual life of the People as the most important task of the revolution. The August Revolution succeeded, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was still young, with countless problems to solve, but right at the first meeting of the National Construction Planning Research Committee (January 10, 1946), President Ho Chi Minh clearly stated: “We have sacrificed and fought to gain independence. We have won... We have won freedom and independence, but if people still starve and freeze to death, freedom and independence are useless. People only know the value of freedom and independence when they have enough to eat and wear. We must immediately do the following: 1. Make people have food; 2. Make people have clothes; 3. Make people have a place to live; 4. Make people educated. The goal we are going to is those four things. Going to make our people worthy of freedom and independence and help to make freedom and independence.”

To arouse the people's strength, we need to care for the people, but at the same time, we must always be aware of respecting the people. Because, "The will of the people is the will of heaven. If we do what the people want, we will surely succeed. If we go against the will of the people, we will surely fail." Therefore, "For our people, we must not do anything against the will of the people. Whatever the people want, we must do." First of all, he required cadres and party members to wholeheartedly serve the people, love the people, and truly respect the people. He repeatedly pointed out: "To be a cadre means to be a loyal servant of the people for life. Not everyone can remember these letters a, b, c, they have to study forever, study for a lifetime to be able to remember them." At the same time, "Our regime is a democratic regime, meaning that the people are the masters. Our Party is the leading Party, meaning that all cadres, from the Central, to the regional, to the provincial, to the district, to the commune, at any level and in any sector - must be loyal servants of the people."

Today, when our Party is making great efforts to build and rectify the Party to continue to affirm its role as leader of the Vietnamese revolution, it is even more necessary to be imbued with Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style on building a sense of respect for the People, promoting democracy, and constantly improving the material and spiritual life of the People. To do so, we must always "follow the People's line", placing the People at the center of all development. As President Ho Chi Minh pointed out, "The policy of the Party and Government is to take utmost care of the People's lives. If the people are hungry, the Party and Government are at fault; if the people are cold, the Party and Government are at fault; if the people are ignorant, the Party and Government are at fault; if the people are sick, the Party and Government are at fault. Therefore, Party and government cadres from top to bottom must pay utmost attention to the People's lives. They must lead, organize, and educate the People to increase production and save. If people have enough food and clothing, the policies of the Party and Government will be easily implemented. If people are hungry, cold, ignorant, and sick, no matter how good our policies are, they cannot be implemented.

...

Absolute trust in the strength of the People is a vivid expression of the humane spirit and compassion radiating from Ho Chi Minh's morality, humanity and compassion. Then, the spirit and humane values - the core of which is for the people, by the people or for the people, by the people - in Ho Chi Minh's Thought will forever be an invaluable lesson, a compass for our Party to unite the strength of the People in the goal of building and defending the Fatherland today.
