On the afternoon of June 29, Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper coordinated with the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province to organize the program "Lighting up the sea with fishermen", bringing many meanings to local fishermen.
The program presented 200 gifts including batteries, LED bulbs, medicine bags, a handbook on “Things to know about fishing”, some specialized items for fishermen at sea and a shopping voucher worth 1 million VND. Each gift was worth more than 5 million VND. The total cost of gifts to 200 fishermen in Quang Ngai province was more than 1 billion VND.
In addition, the program's Organizing Committee also awarded 26 scholarships to 26 students and children of fishermen who have overcome difficulties to study well, each worth 2 million VND with a set of tools and school bags. At the same time, 5 tablets and school supplies were also awarded to 5 students who have overcome difficulties to study well in the locality, along with special scholarships for children in difficult circumstances.
At the program, Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province shared that the whole province currently has 4,200 fishing vessels, of which nearly 3,100 are offshore fishing vessels. The output in 2023 will reach over 273,000 tons, with the production value of the fishery industry reaching 7,250 billion VND, accounting for 38.5% of the production value of the entire agricultural sector. The program "Lighting up the sea with fishermen" has brought practical sharing and support to fishermen who are going out to sea day and night.
The program “Lighting up the sea with fishermen” organized by Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper from the beginning of 2023 is expected to take place in 28 coastal provinces and cities across the country, with a total implementation cost of more than 30 billion VND. The program aims to support, encourage and accompany fishermen, the Government and local authorities to find solutions to remove the “yellow card” for Vietnam's seafood industry.
