Solemn ASEAN Flag Raising Ceremony in Cairo

At the proposal of Vietnam at the 271st meeting of the ASEAN Cairo Committee (ACC), on August 20, for the first time, the Embassies of ASEAN countries solemnly held a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the Association's founding (August 8, 1967 - August 8, 2024) at the headquarters of the Indonesian Embassy.

The ceremony was attended by all Ambassadors in ACC, along with a large number of staff from ASEAN Embassies in Egypt.

Indonesian Ambassador Lutfi Rauf shared that this year’s theme of ASEAN 2024 is “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, affirming the desire for a strong and successful ASEAN. Today, the Association’s members are continuing their efforts to build a community of comprehensive and sustainable development, in which countries are increasingly connected and effectively respond to the difficulties and challenges of the times.

This is the first time that ASEAN embassies in Egypt have held a flag-raising ceremony.

The rotating chairman of ACC, Singaporean Ambassador Dominic Goh, said that the birth of ASEAN 57 years ago marked an important milestone in regional cooperation in Southeast Asia, creating the premise for the process of building a cohesive and strong ASEAN Community today.

Affirming that solidarity and unity have created the strength of ASEAN, creating the foundation for building a cohesive ASEAN Community based on three pillars: political-security community, economic community and socio-cultural community; Ambassador Dominic Goh believes that ASEAN will overcome challenges for the benefit of the people, for peace, stability, friendship and development in the region and the world.

The event was attended by Ambassadors of ACC and a large number of staff from ASEAN Embassies in Egypt.

The flag-raising ceremony affirms the close ties and cooperation between ASEAN representative agencies in Egypt, which are increasingly consolidated and sustainable. From this year, this event will become an annual activity of ACC.
