(Dan Tri) - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Nghe An... are the provinces with the most candidates leading the 2024 high school graduation exam.
Hanoi has the majority of candidates with the highest scores in all blocks.
The top 200 candidates leading block A00 (math, physics, chemistry) of the 2024 high school graduation exam include 27 candidates from Hanoi and 27 candidates from Thanh Hoa. Thai Binh and Bac Ninh are next, with 23 and 22 candidates, respectively. Ho Chi Minh City and Nghe An each have more than 10 candidates.
The top 200 candidates in block A01 (math, physics, English) have 40 candidates from Ho Chi Minh City. Binh Duong and Hanoi each have 29 candidates. Nghe An, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Bac Ninh... all have less than 10 candidates.
Ho Chi Minh City also leads in the number of candidates with high scores in the top 200 of block B00 (math, chemistry, biology) with 50 candidates. Hanoi has 20, Thanh Hoa has 16, Thai Binh has 10. The remaining provinces have less than 10 candidates.

In block C00 (combined subjects of literature, history, geography), Bac Ninh excelled with 94 candidates scoring 29.25 or higher. Hanoi and Ninh Binh had 34 and 35 candidates respectively. Nghe An had 20 candidates. No candidate from Ho Chi Minh City made it to this group.
In block D01 (math, literature, English), Bac Ninh continues to lead with 59 candidates. Hanoi ranks second with 41 candidates. Nghe An has 20, Thanh Hoa has 11.
Thus, Hanoi has the majority of candidates with high scores in the top 200 in all traditional subject groups. This can be explained by two main reasons: one is that Hanoi has high quality training, and two is that Hanoi's candidates account for 1/10 of the total number of candidates nationwide.
However, when calculating the average score of each subject in the high school graduation exam, Hanoi only appeared in the top 10 rankings for English and was absent from all other rankings.
HCMC alone is present in two tables: math and English.
Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh are the three provinces leading in results in the high school graduation exam.
Specifically, Nam Dinh leads the math rankings with an average score of 7.26. Vinh Phuc ranks 5th and Ninh Binh ranks 6th.
Ninh Binh leads the literature ranking with an average score of 8.16. Nam Dinh ranks 4th and Vinh Phuc ranks 9th.
Vinh Phuc topped the four rankings for physics, history, civics and geography. In these four rankings, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh were both in the top 10.
In the three rankings of chemistry, biology and English, these three provinces are all in the top 10.
Vinh Phuc also ranked first in terms of average scores for all high school graduation exam subjects. Second place belonged to Ninh Binh and third place belonged to Nam Dinh.
Behind these three provinces is Binh Duong. This industrial center is only absent from the top 10 ranking for literature.
In the overall ranking of 63 provinces and cities according to the average scores of high school graduation exams, Ho Chi Minh City ranked 20th and Hanoi ranked 22nd.
Does early admission affect high school graduation exam results?
The rankings in the high school graduation exam partly reflect the level of interest of students in the provinces and cities in this exam.
Most candidates in the provinces enter university with their high school graduation exam scores, while candidates in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have the opportunity to apply for university admission by many other methods.
The early admission method based on academic records is often applied to students of specialized schools. Most provinces have only 1 specialized school, while Ho Chi Minh City has 3 specialized schools and 4 high schools with specialized classes, while Hanoi has 6 specialized schools and 2 high schools with specialized classes.
The method of using international certificates such as IELTS and SAT is only concentrated in urban areas where candidates have good economic conditions.
Meanwhile, the method of using test results to assess capacity and thinking is not favorable for candidates in remote and isolated areas due to the limited number of test seats and low test scores.
The above factors more or less affect the fact that candidates in "remote provinces" have higher average graduation exam results than candidates in big cities, because they do not have many choices.
However, a high school principal in Hanoi said that if we consider the average high school graduation exam scores at each school in Hanoi, we will see a different result.
According to him, the vast majority of students from specialized schools in Hanoi are admitted to universities through early admission. Only a small number of students who choose to study medicine or pharmacy must rely on the high school graduation exam.
"Therefore, the comments of university leaders that students who are admitted to specialized schools tend to neglect their studies during their three years of high school and only focus on the subjects they want to study are well-founded," said the principal.
However, this is not entirely true for other high schools in Hanoi. Many high schools have very high average graduation exam scores for each specific subject, and are much higher than the provinces in the top 10 leading in the country.
Citing evidence from the school he is in charge of, this person said that the percentage of students in the school who take the thinking and ability assessment exams is very high, but they still set high goals for the high school graduation exam.
"Students who get high scores on the thinking assessment also get very high scores on the graduation exam in natural sciences. Because the review content has certain similarities.
Besides, focusing on graduation exams combined with foreign language certificates will increase students' opportunities, while saving costs and time.
Meanwhile, the early admission method using international certificates has many fluctuations, scores have increased rapidly over the years, and costs are expensive.
If they do not pass the early admission exam, they still have to focus on studying for the graduation exam, leading to prolonged pressure. Students who are properly counseled and oriented will not bet on early admission and neglect the high school graduation exam," said the principal.
From this reality, the principal stated that early admission only affects the quality and results of the high school graduation exam locally at some schools in Hanoi, but does not have a widespread impact.
