Vietnamese spirit has created strength
Reporting at the meeting, Director General of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training - Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 32nd SEA Games Dang Ha Viet said that the SEA Games is the largest sporting event in the Southeast Asian region, with 702 Vietnamese athletes competing in 30/36 sports. The goal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is to strive to be in the top of the region. This is also identified as a SEA Games with many advantages and opportunities but also many difficulties and challenges, especially since some of our strong sports and events are not included in the competition program.
“After more than 2 weeks of exciting competition with a spirit of solidarity, purity and nobility, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation has successfully completed the set target and is absolutely safe, with 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals, 118 bronze medals, breaking 12 records and setting 4 SEA Games records, ranking first in the overall delegation at the Congress. The Vietnamese Sports Delegation has concluded an emotional and truly touching SEA Games in a friendly country with fans, spectators and people across the country as well as leaving a good image in the hearts of international friends. These successes are thanks to the attention and care of the Party, State, Government, all levels, sectors and the whole society, especially the attention and regular direction of the leaders of the Party, State and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism”, emphasized Head of the Delegation Dang Ha Viet.
With 359 medals of all kinds, including 136 gold medals, Head of the delegation Dang Ha Viet said that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation has made history by winning the first place overall at a Games held in a foreign country for the first time, along with a number of sports that have also gone down in history such as the women's soccer team successfully defending the SEA Games championship for the fourth consecutive time; Olympic sports such as Golf and Basketball won gold medals for the first time. In addition, many basic sports in the Olympic and Asian Games competition system have affirmed their leading position in the region, ranking first overall such as Wrestling (13 gold medals), Gymnastics (4 gold medals, Judo (8 gold medals), Karatedo (6 gold medals)...
Highlighting some notable achievements of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 32nd SEA Games, Head of the Delegation Dang Ha Viet affirmed that, in addition to the successful performance of the teams in general and the athletes in particular, there was a significant contribution from localities and units in the selection and training of athletes such as Hanoi; Ho Chi Minh City; sectors: Public Security, Army; and localities such as Bac Giang, Phu Yen, Binh Phuoc, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Ben Tre, Bac Lieu, An Giang... "This also demonstrates the effectiveness of the policy of developing high-performance sports, the coordination between the central and local governments in investing, promoting and developing key sports of Vietnam in recent times.
Head of the Delegation Dang Ha Viet also affirmed that whether they won medals that brought glory to the Fatherland or did not achieve the expected results, most of the athletes and coaches of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation always showed a spirit of solidarity, high determination, belief and extraordinary competitive spirit. This is the Vietnamese spirit and a victory in the hearts of fans and people across the country. The Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation also affirmed that the attention of the President, Government leaders, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the encouragement of fans and people across the country, will give the athletes more strength to practice and compete to achieve the highest results.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, President Vo Van Thuong shared that today he was very happy, proud and moved to join the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism in welcoming and meeting with the outstanding members of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 32nd SEA Games at the Presidential Palace.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President sent his best wishes for health and congratulations on the achievements of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the recent 32nd SEA Games. The President assessed that this was an emotional SEA Games and the Vietnamese Sports Delegation demonstrated the spirit of solidarity, nobility and purity of Vietnam, which was highly appreciated by international friends. This was also the first time that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation won first place overall when the SEA Games were held abroad.
President praises achievements of Vietnam Sports Delegation at SEA Games 32
Recalling the proud achievements of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation with 359 medals of all kinds, including 136 gold medals, breaking 12 records and setting 4 SEA Games records, the President assessed this as a very admirable achievement, bringing joy and glory to the people of the whole country. The President also said that, following the press, he knew that behind the medals, victories and glories of the athletes, typically Nguyen Thi Oanh, Pham Thanh Bao, Le Khanh Hung or Coach Mai Duc Chung, were the joys, sorrows, efforts and attempts of each person to overcome personal problems and strive for the highest achievements, for the common success of Vietnamese Sports.
“The achievements, difficulties and efforts that you have overcome have brought fresh inspiration for us and you to strive to complete our work and tasks well. Although each person has a different mission, we hope to achieve the same results as you achieved at the recent SEA Games,” said the President.
On this occasion, the President also praised the efforts of the female athletes - who brought home most of the medals for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. The President acknowledged that the moment the athletes salute the flag, sing the national anthem, hear the name of the Fatherland and their names being called out when the Organizing Committee awards the gold medals, will certainly be emotional, sacred, and proud moments. And that will be the motivation for the athletes to strive, train, and compete to achieve the highest results.
Recalling President Ho Chi Minh's concern for physical training and sports, the President affirmed that over the years, the Party and the State have always paid attention to the cause of physical training and sports and provided the best conditions within the conditions we have to take care of this cause. There were times when we faced difficulties, but now, with the efforts of the State, localities, the attention of sponsors and the whole society, the conditions for physical training and sports development have improved. The President also said that the Party and State leaders will pay attention and, within the permitted conditions, will invest more to develop the country's physical training and sports for the goal of a strong people and prosperous nation, as wished by President Ho Chi Minh.

Appreciating the achievements of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation when competing away at the recent SEA Games, the President reminded the sports sector to promote the achievements to aim for higher arenas such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. And to do so, the sector needs to have a vision and long-term strategic investment. The President also reminded the sector to do a good job of youth training to nurture the next generation of athletes. To have good students, there must be good teachers, so the work of training coaches also needs to be focused on. The President hopes that today's famous athletes will become good coaches in the future, contributing to training many generations of good athletes.
The President acknowledged that in order to achieve the achievements, in addition to the efforts of coaches, athletes, and experts, there is also the contribution of the logistics team, doctors, and nurses who have taken good care of the athletes. The President assessed that sports is a field that bridges international integration, contributing to enhancing the international position and prestige of countries. Thus, the achievements of sports have gone beyond the framework of normal high-low competitions and need more attention and investment.
At the meeting, the President awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh in Athletics and 37 Third Class Labor Medals to outstanding members of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the 32nd SEA Games.
On this occasion, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung asked Party and State leaders to pay attention to and remove bottlenecks in mechanisms and policies to develop the sports career. Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee Nguyen Van Hung expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders of the Party, State and People of Vietnam for accompanying and caring for Vietnamese Sports to write achievements at the 32nd SEA Games. The Minister said that as the Ministry of State management in the three fields of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry is always deeply aware that this is like a three-horse carriage. In which, culture holds the reins, sports care for people's health as the subject to build, create and protect the Fatherland, and tourism bears the mark of a product of culture and sports. The Minister also said that, inheriting the achievements of previous terms, in this term, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has researched to shift the mindset from doing culture, sports and tourism to state management in 3 areas. From there, create policies and propose to competent authorities for approval. In which, Sports is promoting the role of Federations and Associations and developing based on 2 pillars including mass sports, identified as the root, to implement Uncle Ho's teachings, well implementing the Movement for the whole people to exercise following the example of the great Uncle Ho. From mass sports, talented athletes for high-performance sports will be discovered. Since then, Vietnamese sports have had successive forces competing in major international arenas. The Minister also said that the industry has determined the direction for development from the SEA Games to larger arenas such as the Asian Games and the Olympics, so right from the organization of the SEA Games, it has consulted to build a competition program that is mostly Olympic sports. The Minister also emphasized that the reason for the victory of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is the attention of the Party and State leaders, the companionship and support of the people of the whole country. "Each athlete competing at the 32nd SEA Games always maintains the spirit of honest and noble sportsmanship, solidarity in cooperation, and openness to learning with friends in the region. Each athlete has fulfilled the role of a cultural ambassador, not arrogant in victory, not discouraged in defeat, competing with a will and spirit of steel, devoting himself to the flag and colors of the Fatherland", the Minister assessed and suggested that the Party and State leaders pay attention to and remove bottlenecks in mechanisms and policies to develop the sports career. After summarizing 10 years of implementing Resolution No. 08 on sports development, the industry hopes to have more Party Resolutions to develop sports in the new period. This will help to unlock resources to create development steps for Vietnamese Sports in the future. |
