As of 10:00 a.m. on October 6 (Vietnam time), all 7 battleground states that have a major impact on the US presidential election results have closed their polling stations.
The eastern state of Nevada was the last battleground state to close its polls at 10am (10pm on November 5, US time). Given the importance and close results in seven states (Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada), US media outlets were cautious in predicting who would win in these places.
Election officials work in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 5.
The polling site Decision Desk HQ projects former President Donald Trump winning North Carolina. However, most media outlets are holding off on calling the results.
According to NBC News, as of 10:00 a.m. on November 6, Vice President Kamala Harris currently has an advantage over Mr. Trump in the northeastern battleground states, including Pennsylvania (50% - 49.1%), Michigan (52% - 46.1%) and Wisconsin (49.6% - 48.7%).
Meanwhile, former President Trump is doing well in North Carolina (52% - 46.8%) and Georgia (51.9% - 47.1%). The two states of Arizona and Nevada have not had many votes counted due to late voting.
Mr. Trump is expected to have a big advantage if he can "flip" Georgia, which voted for President Joe Biden in 2020. Meanwhile, the race in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania is also particularly close.
Pre-election projections (excluding seven battleground states) had Mr. Trump receiving 230 electoral votes, while Ms. Harris received 226, in states that traditionally voted Democratic or Republican. Therefore, the electoral votes in the seven battleground states are a “must-win” target for the two presidential candidates, if they want to receive the 270 votes needed to win the election.
CNN reported that many polling places in Nevada still had long lines of voters even after the polls closed. Voters who were in line before the polls closed were still able to vote, although they faced long waits. In Nevada, election results will not be announced until all polls have officially closed.
