Vietnam U.22 Team: Foundation comes from defense

Among the central defenders born in 2003 and later, the leading emerging candidate is Pham Ly Duc from HAGL with ideal height (1.82 m) and strong aerial and competitive ability.
Up to now, Ly Duc has started all 11 matches in the V-League since the beginning of the season, scoring 1 goal for HAGL. Another bright name who has also played 7 times in the V-League is Nguyen Nhat Minh (2003) in the Hai Phong Club shirt.
But looking at it more broadly, there are not many young central defenders playing regularly in the 2024 - 2025 V-League, because the fierce nature of the top-level playground makes clubs less willing to risk putting their trust in inexperienced players in this sensitive position.

Recently, HAGL Club attracted attention when introducing 9 SEA Games age players, of which only Ly Duc regularly plays. Vietnamese center back Dinh Quang Kiet (born in 2007, 1.94 m tall) has not played any V-League matches, while Nguyen Van Trieu (born in 2003, 1.88 m tall) has 6 V-League matches but all came from the bench.
This is in complete contrast to the candidates for the U.22 Vietnam team's attack, when Bui Vi Hao, Khuat Van Khang (2003), Nguyen Dinh Bac (2004) are all pillars, starting players at Binh Duong Club, Viettel The Cong Club and Hanoi Police Club in V-League.
A little lower, Nguyen Van Truong (2003) has 5 appearances for Hanoi FC this season, but has many years of experience in the V-League arena. Similarly, striker Nguyen Quoc Viet (2003) has 3 years with 40 V-League matches or in the first division with Thanh Nhan being a pillar of PVF-CAND FC for the past few years...
