The routes currently in operation are: Ba Lang - O Mon; Can Tho International Airport - Phong Dien town - Ong Hao historical relic site; O Mon - Lo Te intersection; O Mon - Vinh Thanh; Lo Te - Kinh B intersection - Kien Giang province bus station extension; Lo Te intersection - Co Do town; Can Tho - Giai Xuan - Phong Dien; Phong Dien - Lo Te Ba Se - O Mon; Phong Dien - Thoi Lai; Ba Lang - Tra Noc industrial park - O Mon.
According to the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center (Department of Transport of Can Tho City), Phuong Trang has put 69 vehicles into operation for the above routes. The vehicles are all new, comfortable and modern.
Along with the suitable ticket price, it has changed the perception of people in the city about the image of buses. People are increasingly interested in and use buses for their travel needs.
According to statistics, in the first 8 months of 2024, passenger transport output was about 557,438 people, an increase of 22% over the same period in 2023.
Besides the achieved results, this type of passenger transport still faces certain difficulties.
Specifically, some routes have few passengers because the end point is not yet connected to adjacent bus routes in the surrounding area.
Besides, people, especially low-income earners such as workers in industrial zones, students, and pupils still choose personal vehicles when traveling and do not prioritize buses as a means of transportation.
On the other hand, the bus stations currently in operation are temporary stations with limited facilities that do not meet the requirements of exploitation and use, which also affects the operations of transport units.
"Regarding the mechanism, the subsidy policy for public passenger transport by bus in Can Tho city has not yet been subsidized. Therefore, the bus routes currently in operation have not yet ensured stable operating frequency, and the network has not really developed widely due to concerns about not being able to ensure operating revenue for transport units when investing in new routes," the Urban Transport Management and Operation Center added.
Developing public passenger transport by bus in the coming time, the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center said it will coordinate with Phuong Trang to continue improving service quality.
In which, attention is paid to education, raising awareness and attitude of drivers and flight attendants to comply with traffic safety regulations.
At the same time, adjust the routes of existing bus routes, improve service quality. Continue to expand the route network to enhance effective connection capacity between communes, wards, towns, districts and counties to the city center and neighboring provinces.
