Tien Linh, Van Toan score, Vietnam team wins big against Laos

(Dan Tri) - Thanks to an explosive second half with goals from Hai Long, Tien Linh, Van Toan and Van Vi, the Vietnamese team won 4-1 on Laos' field in the first match of the group stage of the AFF Cup 2024, which took place on the evening of December 9.

With an explosive second half, in the opening match of the 2024 AFF Cup group stage, the Vietnamese team had an impressive performance when winning 4-1 against the Lao team. The players who scored for Vietnam included Hai Long, Tien Linh, Van Toan and Van Vi. This victory not only brought three valuable points to the Vietnamese team but also created favorable psychological momentum for the next match against Indonesia (December 15).

The Vietnamese team did not field their strongest lineup in the match against Laos. Coach Kim Sang Sik used a series of young players such as Van Khang, Vi Hao, Hai Long, or new players such as Ngoc Tan, Tien Anh, in the starting lineup. After the opening whistle, the Vietnamese team quickly pushed back Laos. The home team tried to push up the lineup to compete at high altitude but could not maintain the pressure. However, coach Kim Sang Sik's team could not create an overwhelming, continuous game. Vietnam's attacks were not diverse, mainly passing over the line or sending the ball to the two wings. Due to the lack of cohesion in the front line, although the Vietnamese team also had many shots in the first half, Laos did not have many truly dangerous opportunities. Tien Linh, Hai Long, Thanh Chung, Van Vi all tried their luck but could not succeed in the first 45 minutes. The Vietnamese team continued to play less effectively in the first 10 minutes of the second half. However, when coach Kim Sang Sik just made the decision to make a substitution with the presence of Van Toan, Quang Hai, Tuan Hai, the Vietnamese team opened the score. In the 58th minute, Hai Long escaped to receive a long pass from Tien Dung, he finished with his left foot to open the score.

With the reinforcement of the attacking front, the Vietnamese team increased their strength and quickly scored two more goals in just 10 minutes. Tien Linh doubled the gap in the 63rd minute and Van Toan widened the score to 3-0 in the 69th minute. The three goals helped the Vietnamese team play comfortably and Van Vi's goal in the 81st minute made the victory certain in the hands of coach Kim Sang Sik and his team. The Lao team scored an honorary goal in the extra time from a penalty kick by Bounkong. And the final score was 4-1 in favor of Vietnam.
