A female patient named TG (26 years old, living in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City) came to the Dermatology Department, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, for examination with both breasts, especially the right breast, swollen, red, and with pus.
Patient G. said that 3 weeks ago, she went on Facebook and saw a Facebook account in Hanoi advertising a very attractive breast augmentation filler injection service with eye-catching images, so she contacted them. After that, the two parties agreed to go to Ho Chi Minh City to rent a hotel to perform breast augmentation filler injections.
Surgical team for patient
“After agreeing on the price and time, the employee flew to Ho Chi Minh City and rented a hotel room to inject filler into my breasts and a few others. In total, they injected 350 cc of Korean body filler into my breasts for 25 million VND. After the injection, both of my breasts were red and painful. When I contacted her, she said it was okay, that it was a normal sign after the injection," Ms. G. recounted.
However, about a week before being hospitalized, her right breast was still swollen, filled with pus, red and painful.
At the Department of Dermatology, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, Master, Doctor Le Thao Hien examined and recorded that the right chest of patient G. was swollen, erythematous, had a large abscess, was tense, hot to the touch, and painful to press. The left chest also had a mass of similar size, not hot, and red. Ultrasound results showed images of filler scattered in soft tissue, with a large abscess. The patient was indicated for inpatient treatment.
After a few days, the abscess ruptured, oozing out a lot of pus and filler. The patient was treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. After that, the doctors consulted and decided to perform surgery to pump, wash, and curettage to remove the filler and pus.
“However, because the filler has dissolved into the tissue, it must be treated many times. The consequences are that patient G. will have an ugly scar on her chest, and the shape of her breast will be deformed. In addition, the left breast is also at risk of infection and abscesses,” Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Pham Hieu Liem - Head of the Plastic Surgery Unit - Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, informed.
Filler injection is a difficult technique, the person performing it must have expertise.
Explaining the cause of complications from filler injections to increase breast size, Dr. Hien said: “Filler is a filler used in the cosmetic industry, which has the effect of filling areas on the body, reducing wrinkles, and rejuvenating the skin. However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently only approves filler injections in the face, neck, and hands. Other cases of filler injection (also known as body filler) are not approved by the FDA. In addition, incorrect injection techniques, unsterile environments and injection processes... are the causes of complications such as infection and abscesses.”
Dr. Hien recommends that filler injection is a difficult technique, requiring the person performing it to be a dermatologist, cosmetician, and properly trained in filler injection techniques. In particular, the FDA has not yet approved filler injections to increase breast size, so absolutely do not listen to the winged advertising words to avoid complications.
