Covid-19 is under control, the number of patients is higher, many hospitals have a difference in revenue and expenditure, Tet bonuses for medical staff are high, some places double last year.
On January 13, Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, said that this year's Tet holiday, the hospital gave all employees a bonus of 12 million VND, including the director. Last year's Tet, the hospital faced many financial difficulties, each employee received an additional income of 8 million VND, taken from the hospital's welfare fund. The previous year's Tet bonus was 7.5 million VND. After the Covid pandemic, the hospital faced many financial difficulties, ran out of salary funds, and did not have enough money to pay the additional income to staff.
Doctors and nurses at the HCM City Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital also received bonuses for both the New Year and Lunar New Year this year, totaling VND41 million. The hospital director and nurses received the same Tet bonus. Last year, the total bonus for this place was VND29.3 million.
"I am very excited to announce the increased Tet bonus for employees. I hope everyone will have more joy after a year of hard work and more motivation to try to serve patients better and better," said Dr. Le Tran Quang Minh, Director of the hospital, adding that the number of medical examinations and treatments at the hospital last year increased by 6% compared to before the pandemic.
Similarly, Dr. Pham Quoc Dung, Director of District 11 Hospital, said that the Tet bonus is 700,000 VND per person/month, those who work for 12 months in a year will receive 8.4 million VND, 1.2 million VND more than last year. In addition, each person will receive 1 million VND for the New Year. Last year, due to the impact of the epidemic, the bonus for the New Year here was 300,000 VND, for the Lunar New Year it was 2.4 million VND, plus the city's proposed support of 1.5 VND per person.
As for the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute, each employee received a New Year bonus of VND10 million - a level that has been maintained for many years. On the occasion of Lunar New Year, this place plans to give a monthly salary bonus of VND13 million and VND35 million, the same as last year.
In the three years from 2020-2022, facing many difficulties due to the pandemic, the hospital still tried to maintain an average income of 23 million VND/person/month along with other incomes besides salary and Tet bonuses as before the pandemic. In 2023, medical examination and treatment activities returned to normal, attracting many patients thanks to technical improvements, the average income of employees here increased to about 26 million VND.
"The bonus of 45 million VND is divided equally from the leaders to the nurses and caregivers to share with all employees. The 13th month salary will be higher for those with seniority and high monthly income," said Dr. Bui Minh Trang, director of the hospital.

In Hanoi , Bach Mai, Viet Duc, Central Dermatology, Geriatrics, Duc Giang hospitals... maintain full salaries and bonuses as every year, ensuring employees have income to prepare for Tet. Many hospitals estimate that Tet bonuses will be higher than last year. For example, Bach Mai Hospital, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, medical staff were all awarded 2 million VND, double last year's amount. As for the Lunar New Year, salaries and bonuses are being balanced, but hospital staff expect to receive higher bonuses than every year.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong, Director of Duc Giang General Hospital, said that the bonus will be balanced according to the hospital's welfare fund based on the year's summary and then divided. He affirmed that the hospital's Tet bonus this year will not decrease.
A representative of the Ministry of Health said that medical facilities proactively pay Tet bonuses to employees. This is not a "fixed amount" in the Labor Law, but depends on the production and business situation of the unit. For medical facilities, bonuses are also paid according to the actual capacity of each hospital.
In previous years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, employment, salaries, and bonuses of medical staff decreased. The difficult situation was prolonged due to problems such as drug shortages, financial imbalances, salary fund depletion, and policy barriers... This year, the Covid epidemic has been controlled, people care about their health, so they visit and receive treatment more often, thereby creating a difference in revenue and expenditure for hospitals. For example, in Ho Chi Minh City, the number of outpatient visits increased by 11% compared to 2022 and increased by 6% compared to 2020. The number of inpatient visits also increased significantly. Hospitals are increasingly implementing quality improvement activities, aiming at patient satisfaction, and hospital quality rankings have increased year by year.
According to statistics from the Department of Labor and Wage Relations (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) of nearly 47,400 enterprises in 62 provinces and cities (excluding Quang Tri), 61.4% of enterprises will give Lunar New Year bonuses in 2024. The average bonus is 6.85 million VND per person, equivalent to last year. Of which, the highest bonus of nearly 5.7 billion VND belongs to a Japanese-invested enterprise located in Long An, the lowest is 20,000 VND in Ca Mau.
