Promoting digital commerce for women-led businesses in Vietnam

On November 25-26, the Trade Promotion Agency organized a series of programs to promote digital trade for women-led businesses in the European market.


Sharing at the conference on November 26, Mr. Bui Viet Truong - Deputy Head of International Relations Department, Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the Workshop "Promoting digital trade for women-led businesses in Vietnam" is within the framework of the Shetrades - UPS project cooperation in Vietnam between the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) and the International Trade Center (ITC), an affiliate of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO), jointly organized by the UPS Foundation.

The workshop aims to support businesses to gain deeper access to digital commerce, opening up many opportunities for female-owned businesses.

Emphasizing the bilateral cooperation relationship, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department, Department of Trade Promotion, said that over the years, ITC SheTrades and the Department of Trade Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade have cooperated with each other with a steadfast commitment to promote comprehensive trade, growth of small and medium enterprises, and gender equality in Vietnam.

“In line with these efforts, both sides have collaborated with key partners in the public and private sectors to provide comprehensive support to women entrepreneurs,” said Mr. Bui Viet Truong.

Specifically, the Trade Promotion Agency, together with ITC SheTrades and the UPS Foundation, have cooperated to implement the “SheTrades and UPS Women Exporters Program Phase 2.0” to equip Vietnamese female entrepreneurs with skills, resources and support systems to develop in the digital economy.

The program is a continuation of the first phase of SheTrades and UPS WEP, which aims to provide training, skills building and development opportunities for Vietnamese women entrepreneurs, helping them benefit from global trade and investment opportunities.

“These efforts aim to empower women-led businesses by improving their digital and financial capabilities, thereby expanding their competitiveness both regionally and globally,” said Mr. Truong.

Pointing out the urgency of the digital transformation process in businesses today, a representative of the Trade Promotion Agency said that in the current business context, digital tools and technologies have become indispensable factors, determining the success and sustainable development of each business.

Accordingly, Mr. Truong emphasized: "In a digital era, where the application of technology in management and operation not only helps optimize processes and reduce costs but also opens up new opportunities, helping businesses grow dramatically and compete effectively in the market".

With diverse and updated content, through a series of events, businesses will understand how e-commerce and digital transformation can facilitate business expansion into the European market. At the same time, gain the skills to integrate digital tools into their business and expand their market reach, positioning themselves as competitors in both domestic and global markets.

In addition, promote connections between female entrepreneurs and key stakeholders such as the Trade Promotion Agency, RVO Netherlands, UPS Foundation, Alibaba, Asian Development Bank; raise awareness of financial services for female entrepreneurs.

Additionally, over the course of the two-day event, ITC SheTrades and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, in partnership with RVO, the UPS Foundation and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), provided an overview of the challenges and opportunities for women entrepreneurs in digital commerce and provided training sessions on key e-commerce concepts, focusing on expanding business into European (EU) markets.

In addition, the event also highlighted the benefits of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which will reduce tariffs and improve access to the EU market, enhancing the export potential of Vietnamese women-led businesses.

According to the Trade Promotion Agency, the SheTrades initiative of the International Trade Centre (ITC) brings together key stakeholders including the Government, private sector, financial institutions, business support organizations, international organizations and others to expand economic opportunities for women-led businesses.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam have long been partners in supporting economic development in Vietnam, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. ITC SheTrades and RVO, in cooperation with the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, plan to launch a new program to support Vietnamese female entrepreneurs in accessing digital transformation, especially promoting online exports to the European market.

In partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ITC SheTrades is also supporting the translation of training modules into Vietnamese and piloting gender-based investment training for Asian financial institutions. These efforts aim to empower women-led businesses by improving their digital and financial capabilities, thereby expanding their competitiveness both regionally and globally.
