In recent years, Quang Nam and the southern provinces of Laos have promoted investment cooperation, trade promotion, and tourism, initially attracting businesses from the province to cooperate and invest in Laos. In particular, THACO is considered the leading bird with many feasible projects, initially showing positive results.
Visiting and working at THACO Chu Lai recently, the Lao National Assembly delegation highly appreciated THACO's investment in the southern provinces of Laos; at the same time, they said that the ministries, branches and localities where the project is located will create favorable conditions for the group to produce and do business effectively in Laos.
Motivation from THACO
Mr. Tran Ba Duong - Chairman of THACO Board of Directors said that in its development strategy, THACO aims to become a multi-industry industrial corporation with member corporations.
Accordingly, the scale of operations in the fields of automobiles, agriculture, mechanics and supporting industries, investment - construction, trade - services and logistics... will be complementary and highly integrated within each corporation, as well as between member corporations and THACO.
At the same time, Nong Khang airport project in Sam Neua district (Hua Phan province) was implemented, with a total value of 82 million USD. Currently, this airport has been exploited with a frequency of 22 flights/week.
To create a "take-off" for the investment process, in recent times, THACO has promoted exploration and exploitation activities through a series of projects implemented in ASEAN countries.
In Laos alone, THACO has so far invested in a large-scale agricultural complex in the direction of circular integration with a total area of over 27,000 hectares in Attapeu and Sekong provinces. In particular, specialized fruit tree cultivation combined with effective cattle breeding has been and is implementing the export of products to other countries...
“Based on existing resources and experience, THACO is committed to successfully and effectively implementing large-scale, organic, integrated circular agricultural projects in Laos and logistics projects connecting Southern Laos with Chu Lai port in particular and Central seaports in general.
We will implement projects effectively and sustainably, contributing to improving the lives and bringing practical values to the people and country of Laos," said Mr. Tran Ba Duong.
To facilitate the investment cooperation process, THACO representatives recommended that there should be policies and incentives to create conditions for Lao enterprises to access and import and export goods through Chu Lai port. At the same time, they requested the National Assembly, the Government, and the departments and agencies of Quang Nam province to speed up the progress of public investment in National Highway 14D.
In addition, continue to research to invest in connecting routes to shorten transportation routes; support the completion of legal procedures to dredge Cua Lo channel, contributing to reducing logistics costs for businesses in the Central Highlands and Southern Laos.
Always create the best conditions
According to Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Quang Nam has an important geographical position in the East-West Economic Corridor; it is the shortest point connecting the Central Key Economic Zone with the Southern Laos region through the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc International Border Gate.
In recent times, the cooperative relationship between Quang Nam and Lao localities has developed strongly, achieved many important results and has been highly appreciated by the central ministries and branches of the two countries.
Over the past 27 years since the re-establishment of the province, Quang Nam has made remarkable progress. From a purely agricultural province with limited budget revenue, mainly receiving support from the central budget, by 2017, Quang Nam became a province that contributed to the central budget.
Quang Nam province's total budget revenue increased from 100 billion VND (in 1997) to 22,000 billion VND (in 2023); in 2022 alone, it reached more than 30,000 billion VND. In that achievement, there is a great companionship and contribution from THACO.
“Through monitoring, I know that THACO is currently focusing on investing in the Southern Laos region with many large projects. Therefore, I hope that THACO will receive the attention, support, and most favorable conditions from the Party, National Assembly, Government of Laos and the Southern Laos localities, helping THACO invest effectively and develop and grow stronger in Laos.
We also believe that THACO will accompany and make important contributions to the development of the Southern Lao localities in particular and Laos in general as it has been accompanying Quang Nam, contributing to consolidating and tightening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos" - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet emphasized.
Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Sommat Phonsena said that Quang Nam and the southern provinces of Laos have a special relationship, the cooperation between the two sides is increasingly close and effective, especially the accompaniment of THACO in implementing projects in Laos.
Typically, the Nong Khang airport project in Hua Phan province, which was handed over by THACO in 2023, is operating very effectively, serving the needs of airlines in Laos well.
Mr. Som-mat Phonsena pledged that after returning to Vietnam, he will propose to the National Assembly, the Government, ministries, branches and localities to create the best conditions for THACO to implement projects and effectively produce and do business in Laos.
“Some of THACO's projects in Laos are in the process of land lease procedures. The Lao National Assembly will create the best conditions and I think the Lao Government and relevant ministries and branches will also create the best conditions for these projects to be implemented soon.
Laos will work with Vietnam to promote trade and logistics activities between Quang Nam and the southern provinces of Laos, contributing to promoting the good friendship and cooperation between the two countries," Mr. Som-mat Phonsena emphasized.
