This afternoon (August 15), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met, praised and encouraged the Vietnamese women's team after their journey at the 2023 Women's World Cup. The Prime Minister congratulated Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team as well as the Vietnam Football Federation and expressed his pride and emotion when the Vietnamese flag and national anthem were raised and played for the first time at a Women's World Cup.
The Prime Minister believes that the Vietnamese women's team can learn many lessons from the 2023 Women's World Cup as well as the development journey over the years. The Prime Minister emphasized that in football and sports, there must be health and skills, competitive spirit, will to rise, and national pride. These are factors that need to be encouraged, preserved and promoted, but they cannot be achieved in a hurry or in a day or two, but require investment, training, and the right method.
The Prime Minister praised and highly appreciated the team's fighting spirit, solidarity, determination and dedication; emphasizing that the most important thing is that the team has conquered itself, won with the spirit of noble sportsmanship and has done everything they can. The female players may be small in physical strength but are not inferior in spirit, will and determination.
Reiterating the proverbs "Failure is the mother of success" and "A day's journey teaches a lot of knowledge", the Prime Minister emphasized that the results may not be as expected, but the important thing is that we have drawn valuable lessons in tactics, expertise, techniques, physique, physical strength... in competition.
The Prime Minister reviewed all the achievements from 2000 to the present and acknowledged the growth of each generation of Vietnamese women's football. Before participating in the World Cup, the Vietnamese women's team won the SEA Games gold medal many times, became the Southeast Asian champion, and entered the knockout round of the Asian Cup and ASIAD. Notably, in all these tournaments, the female players showed great spirit and will to compete.
The Prime Minister once again called the Vietnamese women's team the diamond girls and emphasized that this is a completely worthy title.
"The players have done things that no one has done in the past. That is a source of pride, worth protecting and preserving," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Reporting to the Prime Minister, Coach Mai Duc Chung said: " This is an important milestone for the Vietnamese women's team. Participating in the World Cup for the first time, all team members are very proud to contribute to representing the image of Vietnamese football on the international stage.
I was very moved when the Vietnamese national anthem was played at the prestigious women's football tournament in the world. In terms of strength on the FIFA rankings, or professional level, Vietnamese women's football is still far behind the other teams. However, the Vietnamese women's team has shown a determined and courageous fighting spirit .
On behalf of the entire team, Coach Mai Duc Chung sincerely thanked the leaders of the Party, State and the sports industry for always guiding and promptly paying attention to the team's activities, creating conditions for the Vietnamese women's team to train. Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team also sent their thanks to fans at home and abroad.
" Continuing that spirit, the Vietnamese women's team promises to train harder and be more determined to compete at their best at the 19th ASIAD ," said coach Mai Duc Chung.
