A recent leak has revealed many interesting details about the foldable iPhone, including a more elegant design than its direct competitor Samsung and a larger battery capacity.
A foldable iPhone render shared online
According to X leakster HaYaO, the foldable iPhone will be shaped like a book, similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold6. When closed, the device is 9.2 mm thick and only 4.6 mm when fully opened. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is 5.6 mm thick when open and 12.1 mm when closed.
Apple has big ambitions with the folding iPhone
Notably, the foldable iPhone will be equipped with two batteries with a total capacity of up to 5,000 mAh, surpassing its rival Galaxy Z Fold6 with a capacity of 4,400 mAh. Apple is expected to apply 3D stacking technology to reduce battery size without reducing capacity.
Additionally, the foldable iPhone's internal display is expected to be 12 inches in size, larger than the displays of the latest iPad mini (8.3 inches) and the Galaxy Z Fold6 (7.6 inches).
According to information from leak expert Jukanlosreve on X, Apple plans to launch its first foldable smartphone in September 2026, along with the iPhone 18. The company is expected to sell 8 to 10 million units in 2026 and increase to 20 million units in 2027.
Apple is betting big on the product, believing that consumer anticipation will generate interest and drive sales. In the meantime, consumers can look to the Galaxy Z Fold models from Samsung, the company that is currently the king of sales in the foldable smartphone market.
