According to TechSpot , owners of older Apple Watches that have experienced swollen batteries may be eligible for compensation from Apple. Apple recently agreed to pay $20 million to settle a class action lawsuit related to the issue.

Apple's settlement applies to anyone in the United States who owned and experienced battery swelling in a first-generation, Series 1, Series 2, or Series 3 Apple Watch between April 2015 and February 2024, and complained to Apple about the issue during that time.

According to the settlement’s official website, each eligible user is estimated to receive between $20 and $50. While not a huge amount, it’s still a welcome compensation for users who have been inconvenienced by Apple Watch battery issues.
To receive this compensation, users need to submit a claim through the designated website before April 10, 2025.
Despite agreeing to pay a substantial settlement, Apple has consistently denied any wrongdoing related to the battery issue. The company said it agreed to the settlement only to avoid further litigation costs and specifically denied the plaintiffs’ allegations.
As part of the settlement, anyone who accepts the payment must waive the right to separately sue Apple over future smartwatch battery issues.
The battery settlement is just the latest in a series of legal troubles for Apple. Last month, the company agreed to pay $95 million to settle allegations that its Siri assistant was illegally recording users’ private conversations. Apple is also currently facing a class-action lawsuit over the use of toxic chemicals in some Apple Watch bands.
If the battery settlement receives final court approval by April 10, payments could begin rolling in shortly thereafter. For users who have already filed a claim, there’s nothing more they need to do, as Apple will send payments to the contact information on file from their original registration.
