More new works for Dong Nai children

The fascinating, humane stories in each work have been arousing a passion for reading, stimulating imagination, helping Dong Nai children approach cultural and historical values ​​and draw lessons in a gentle, natural way.

Exciting with many new works

Alone in the Street (novel) and A Time of Flowerhood (collection of short stories) are the two latest works by writer Nguyen Thai Hai for children, recently published by the Vietnamese Women's Publishing House and Dong Nai Publishing House. The works tell gentle, innocent stories from real life and the writer's experiences with young children. Through them, the writer incorporates many lessons as well as arouses curiosity, stimulating children to learn new things about life.

The novel “Alone in the City” tells the story of the family of Aunt Hai Hue and Uncle Tam Huong living in a small house at the foot of Gia Nhang Mountain - the second highest mountain in the South. This mountain has an ancient tree with three roots and one top. On the mountain, there are several streams of water flowing down to form a stream full of water all year round, enough to irrigate the rice fields at the foot of the mountain…

Aunt Hai Hue has three children: Phuoc, Phung and Tuan Anh. Their difficult family circumstances forced the two older children to drop out of school early and sell lottery tickets and roasted peanuts every day. One day, after selling almost all the lottery tickets, Phuoc decided to take Phung to the city to find Uncle Ba Diep's house in the hope of getting help. Phuoc and Phung's journey to the city encountered many difficulties because they only knew Uncle Ba's house address as "Ba Diep Tailor Shop".

During the journey of several days “Wandering in the city”, Phuoc and Phung experienced many changes, met many good people but also many bad people… Finally, the two brothers found Uncle Ba Diep’s house, Aunt Hai Hue went to the city to find her children, took Phuoc and Phung back to her house in Gia Nhang mountain. The story ended when Aunt Hai Hue still hid a thing from her children. That was that Uncle Ba Diep had discussed with her that after the next school year, he would sponsor her to go back to school. He also sent money to buy new bicycles for the two children.

The short story collection A Time of Youth (120 pages thick) by writer Nguyen Thai Hai includes 8 short stories: Poor House; Neighbors; Sick Pig; High Thai Mountain; Father and Son; Alley; The Play of the Trung Sisters; Little Girl Truc Quan Am. The collection was presented by writer Nguyen Thai Hai to 120 students of Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts.

Among the works written for children in Dong Nai in 2025 is the long story collection Strange Stories of the Snail House (published by Dong Nai Publishing House) by writer Hoang Ngoc Diep. Author Tram Oanh introduced the work Cat Knight to readers; author Ngo Huong introduced the book Summer Fun (published by Dong Nai Publishing House)... With creative storytelling, the story collections not only bring new and exciting experiences to children, but also arouse their curiosity, imagination, and inspire them strongly.

Dong Nai has many writers and poets who write for children. Typical examples include: Hoang Van Bon, Nguyen Thai Hai, Dam Chu Van, Thu Tran, Hoang Ngoc Diep, Nguyen Mot, Pham Thanh Quang, Tran Thu Hang, Nguyen Tri, Tram Oanh... Many works written for children by Dong Nai writers and poets have won major awards at the provincial, regional and national levels.

The new books for children in Dong Nai not only contribute to enriching the literary life, but also demonstrate the authors’ dedication to nurturing a generation that loves books and appreciates the good values ​​of life. The diversity of topics and themes in the works of writers and poets in Dong Nai has been making important contributions to the development of children’s literature, not only in the province, but also nationwide, opening the door to connecting knowledge and emotions for children.

Researching on children's stories in Dong Nai, writer Bui Cong Thuan (Literature Department, Dong Nai Literature and Arts Association) said that Dong Nai writers, each from their own region, have reflected the diversity of Vietnamese childhood in Dong Nai (which is also representative of childhood in the whole country). The passion of Dong Nai writers in writing for children is the desire to educate the future generations of the country with good things.

The development of children’s literature in Dong Nai in recent years has had a great contribution from dedicated authors. Encouraging creativity as well as creating conditions for young people to access new works has been contributing to building a generation of Dong Nai youth rich in knowledge and humanity, while nurturing their souls and love of reading.
