With the meaning of a full year and a prosperous year, many families have the habit of stocking up on food during Tet. However, this habit poses a potential risk of food poisoning.
During Tet, many people have the habit of stocking up on large quantities of food during Tet. Therefore, in every family, the refrigerator is always full of food, accompanied by sumptuous feasts.
Food poisoning usually occurs within a few hours after the bacteria enter the body. |
However, during Tet, the high demand for food makes it more difficult to control the origin of raw materials. If you do not choose food carefully, preserve and process it improperly, or accidentally use spoiled food, it is very easy to get food poisoning.
Food poisoning can happen to anyone and usually appears 4-6 hours after eating unsafe food for toxins and 1-2 days for bacterial poisoning.
Dr. Ngo Chi Cuong, Head of Internal Medicine Department, Deputy Director of Professional Affairs at Medlatec General Hospital, said that common signs of food poisoning are abdominal cramps, diarrhea (loose stools more than 3 times in 24 hours), nausea, vomiting, high fever above 39 degrees Celsius, and symptoms of dehydration such as dry skin, dry lips, and sunken eyes.
In severe cases, the patient may have a rapid pulse, rapid breathing, lethargy or convulsions. In young children, signs such as dry lips, dry tongue, sunken eyes and crying without tears should also be noted.
If not treated promptly, food poisoning can cause serious complications such as sepsis, organ failure, electrolyte disturbances, and even death.
According to Dr. Cuong, food poisoning usually occurs within a few hours after bacteria enter the body. Depending on the stage of poisoning, the following treatment measures can be applied:
Within 4-6 hours after eating: If there are signs of poisoning, the food is still in the stomach and has not yet reached the intestines. At this time, it is necessary to urgently clean the stomach by inducing vomiting.
If the patient is conscious, you can use your finger to tickle the throat or give them diluted salt water (2 tablespoons of salt mixed with 1 cup of warm water) and then induce vomiting. However, if the patient is lethargic, unconscious or has signs of convulsions, absolutely do not induce vomiting to avoid the risk of choking.
Diarrhea: Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. You can mix 1 packet of Orezol in 1 liter of water, or mix ½ teaspoon of salt with 4 teaspoons of sugar in 1 liter of water, and give it to the patient to drink. Drinking water helps neutralize toxins and reduce the harmful effects of poison.
Severe poisoning: If there are symptoms of vomiting, repeated diarrhea, headache, lip numbness, rash... the patient should be taken immediately to a medical facility for timely emergency treatment.
Tet is a time for family reunion after a year of hard work. To have a safe and healthy Tet, in addition to protecting your mental health, you also need to pay attention to the following principles of food poisoning prevention:
Choose fresh, clean food with clear origin.
Store food properly, separate raw and cooked foods.
Eat cooked food, drink boiled water: For processed food that has been stored in the refrigerator, it should be reheated before eating, but should not be reheated many times. Do not eat spoiled food and remember to wash vegetables before eating raw.
Wash your hands thoroughly before preparing and eating. Keep the preparation area and utensils clean. In addition, when eating out, you should choose clean, reputable restaurants that ensure food hygiene and safety.
