During 2 days (January 10-11, 2024), Huong Lap Border Guard Station (Quang Tri Border Guard) coordinated with the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Huong Lap commune and collectives, individuals, businesses, and philanthropists to organize the program "Border Spring - Warming the hearts of the villagers" on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024.
The program took place with many exciting cultural activities imbued with the traditions of the people in the border area with many meaningful activities such as: wrapping banh chung, lighting a campfire, pounding banh day competition, cultural exchange, gong dance....
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Le Luan, Political Commissar of Huong Lap Border Post, said that in addition to organizing entertainment activities and learning about the customs and practices of the people for 2 days for the border residents, the unit also organized visits, gave gifts, and wished a happy new year to 8 families of martyrs sponsored by the unit and 1 soldier who had been sick for a long time.
The unit also invited families with meritorious services, families actively participating with the Border Guard Station in managing and protecting the border, poor households and children in the program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of the Border Guard Station", the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school" to attend the year-end meal and celebrate Tet.
The Border Guard Station also sent 4 teams/20 officers and soldiers to help people and celebrate Tet with the people; at the same time, the unit's military doctors visited the homes of the elderly, families with special difficulties, and those living alone without support in the two communes of Huong Lap and Huong Viet to examine and give medicine.
In the program “Spring Border Guard - Warming the hearts of the villagers”, the organizing committee presented more than 500 gifts, each worth 300,000 VND; 20 warm blankets, 50 warm clothes; 400 Chung cakes and 500 national flags. Of which, 50 gifts were given to extremely poor households in 3 pairs of twin villages on both sides of the Vietnam - Laos border. The total value was over 200 million VND, supported by border guards and units and benefactors inside and outside the province.
Colonel Ngo Xuan Thuong, Deputy Political Commissar of Quang Tri Border Guard, said: “Taking care of families with meritorious services and poor households in the border areas to celebrate the New Year demonstrates the good traditional morality and culture of mutual love and support of the Vietnamese people; at the same time, it demonstrates the affection and responsibility of Border Guard officers and soldiers to the people in the border areas to celebrate the New Year in a warmer and more complete way. For many years, Quang Tri Border Guard has successfully implemented the program “Spring Border Guard - Warming the hearts of the villagers”. This year is more special because it is the first time we have invited representatives of some Lao officers and people in the opposite village to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Vietnamese people”.
