Implementing the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress on marine economic development, in recent years, Thai Thuy district has fully exploited its advantages and potentials, gradually promoting marine economic development, creating momentum for local economic development.
Thai Thuy district invests in and upgrades many important traffic routes, creating regional connections, contributing to promoting the development of the marine economy.
Comprehensive development of fisheries economy
It was not yet dawn but the atmosphere at Tan Son fishing port was already bustling. People were rushing to buy and sell seafood, while others were busy preparing food and fuel to be ready to go out to sea. After more than 3 days at sea, Mr. Ta Duy Hieu, owner of fishing boat TB90081TS, was excited because his fishing trip was a big success. He shared: Promoting the traditional profession, more than 10 years ago I boldly invested in buying a pair of 280CV boats to catch seafood. On this trip, I caught more than 1.5 tons of mackerel, pomfret, squid..., earning 60 - 70 million VND, after deducting expenses, the remaining amount was about 30 million VND. In recent years, we fishermen have faced many disadvantages due to increasingly scarce fishing grounds, complicated weather conditions, rising fuel prices, and unskilled young labor force... However, the local people and I still persevere every day to stick to the sea because this is not only a way to make a living and help improve our lives, but also a traditional profession of our ancestors that needs to be preserved and promoted.
Mr. Le Xuan Quy, Chairman of Diem Dien Town People's Committee, said: The town currently has 144 fishing boats, of which 70 boats are over 15m long. The output reaches over 15,000 tons/year. From the beginning of 2024 to now, the production value of the agricultural and aquatic products sector is estimated at over 100 billion VND. Abundant raw materials are conditions for the development of seafood processing and trading. The locality has 4 enterprises and 18 seafood processing facilities, creating jobs for more than 500 local workers with an income of 10 - 15 million VND/person/month. In addition, people also develop fishing logistics services and aquaculture. From the development of the marine economy, people's lives are constantly improved and enhanced.
In addition to Diem Dien town, coastal localities have taken advantage of local potential to comprehensively develop the fields of aquaculture, exploitation and seafood processing.
Mr. Le Van Hoan, Deputy Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: From the beginning of 2024 to now, the total aquaculture area of Thai Thuy is more than 4,300 hectares, the aquaculture output is estimated at more than 23,300 tons; the production value of the aquaculture industry is estimated at more than 930 billion VND, an increase of 2.36% over the same period. Currently, the whole district has 5 seafood processing products that have been evaluated, ranked and recognized as 3-star and 4-star OCOP products. In 2024, striving for the value of seafood production to reach 2,282 billion VND, the district focuses on directing aquaculture in transition areas, riverside and coastal areas; strengthening the transfer of scientific and technical advances; propagating and guiding people to use good breeds and feed from reputable suppliers with sufficient technical standards to increase productivity and efficiency; Promote propaganda and mobilize people to raise people in the direction of intensive farming to bring high profits per unit of pond area, ensuring sustainable development; resolutely review and manage fishing vessels to properly implement regulations in seafood exploitation; review and urge 100% of processing enterprises to build conditions to ensure food safety standards that meet export standards.
Currently, the total aquaculture area of Thai Thuy district is more than 4,300 hectares.
Building infrastructure system associated with attracting investment
Identifying marine economic development as a breakthrough in the district's economic development, Thai Thuy focuses on coordinating with the Project Management Board of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to actively complete the investment steps to build Thuy Tan fishing port (Thuy Truong, An Tan) according to Decision No. 592/QD-TTg, dated May 30, 2023 of the Prime Minister; at the same time, completing the steps of the investment project to upgrade Tan Son fishing port and fishing wharves according to the planning to both create a solid fishing logistics system and also effectively implement solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; re-plan the seafood processing system, forming large product consumption centers of concentrated farming areas and urban centers. In addition, the district has invested in and upgraded many important traffic routes, creating regional connections such as the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 37 and Hoa River Bridge, the coastal road project through Thai Binh province, the project to invest in and build the CT.08 expressway through Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces... creating favorable conditions to attract investment.
Mr. Pham Van Chung, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, said: Investing in building a synchronous and modern infrastructure system has created favorable conditions to attract investment inside and outside industrial parks and clusters in the district. The district has established 4 industrial clusters, attracting 15 secondary projects with a total registered investment capital of more than 1,700 billion VND. From the beginning of 2024 to now, the district has attracted 9 industrial projects, of which 7 projects registered for investment in Lien Ha Thai Industrial Park, 1 project registered for investment in Thuy Son Industrial Cluster, and 1 Amonitrat project. The district is focusing on directing drastically, removing difficulties, improving the investment environment, creating favorable conditions for handling administrative procedures; Focus on site clearance, especially key projects such as Lien Ha Thai Industrial Park project, connecting roads in Thai Binh Economic Zone, model new rural residential area housing development project in Thuy Binh commune, Thai Binh LNG thermal power plant project, VSIP Thai Binh industrial park project; promote service and tourism development, constantly improve and enhance people's lives with the goal of soon turning Thai Thuy into a green urban area, a modern coastal urban area in the future.
